ok, i'm needing help deciding on a good business, "catchy" but not too long, name for my arcade that i am opening shortly! this is a going to be a public facility but on a busy street and in a warehouse location. i plan to move into a bigger "venue" at some point so can't be specific to location.

the initial theme will be the top classics from the 80s(ie pac, galaga, sw, centipede, dk, pp, etc...), but also trying to cater to all ages/genres! the classics will be at least the top 20 on the all-time list, plus more! i have shooters, drivers(linked pairs), hoop shot, air hockey, pinballs, and even a few games that will charge to play like a crane and stacker! so, this is a family-oriented, no smoking/alcohol- maybe byob ;), arcade that you pay admission at the front door and all on free-play except for a few mentioned.

hopefully the word will get out to moms and dads about the classics and pinballs, but can bring the little ones or teenagers for all to play and have a good time.

this will be dark with just ambient lighting and game lights! i don't want a geeky name or anything to do with my name, just a one or two word catchy somethin! i have come up with a couple of my own but like klovers input. i don't think i want to go with a total "retro" name all together....do want to deter kids! trying to keep it generic.

so, if you have any ideas of what i can call this arcade, please feel free to chime and i appreciate the help!!!

thanks,
Kelly Ray

Hm...
The Centipac
Arcade Wars
Kray's in the name could be catchy.
Play Mania
Arcade City
The [color of the building] Place
Texas Arcade
Quarter a Play

yes, good ideas, thanks!

i don't want to include my name or the building because i might move and don't wanna change my name again once it's done!

i have an idea of putting my huge Star Wars collection in this arcade above the games so they will not "walk-off". i am not 100% on doing this yet but thought it might be cool and different, plus give me a place to display also(mostly boxed items). that being said, the "Arcade Wars" name has come up since i might do the Star Wars theme also!!!

good going, that name might stick but like to here others! i thought of "HOTH" and the letters actually spell out something like "Home Of The H????" lol ;)

Hangarcade (Go with a planes theme. "Come park your ass in our berth"? :p)

HALL OF THE HIGHSCORE (HOTH)

The H could stand for happy, harmony, etc.

I like smalltownguy2's "replay arcade" idea. You need to attract the common man. KISS is best. Also a dark room with just game lights attracts what was attracted to arcades in the old days.. keep it lit and family friendly. I'd leave the star wars toys at home. On top of a machine isnt much of a deterrent.

either way you can't loose ;)

I've always thought RetroBlast! would be a great name for a classic arcade but that name is probably trademarked, as it was used for a web site started by Kevin Steele that lasted from 2003 to 2007. (It had a cool logo too.) He shut it down after taking over GameRoom Magazine, which has also since gone defunct. If you like the name I'd suggest contacting Kevin to get his blessing in addition to doing a trademark search to ensure it already isn't owned by and being used by someone else.

how bout

I have asked a lot of people lately what would they call a retro arcade?
And they all tell me the same thing for some reason.
So maybe I got it.

OLD SCHOOL ARCADE

or to be really clever
OLD SKOOL ARCADE

everyone seems to suggest this name lately to me for some reason

FreePlayz - IF you charge a set amount and have the games on free play?
RetroCity
StarCade? - Fits the star wars theme?

QuatertoNone?
A Quarter2? take on "a quarter to" phrase

Playcade
Players Club

If I think of more I'll add to it...

Kolonnade's (colonade is another word for Arcade)

there use to be a chain of arcade / pool hall in teh central Indiana area about 25 years ago. It may be copyrighted but I know they have been long gone for many, many years. It was called

"GAMES PEOPLE PLAY"

How many of you have heard of that business?

Yeah seem to get same response but just trying to get something with a domain and stick with it also! Retrocade is already taken too.

I cannot have anything with quarters or free play as I said before, most are free play but just a select few kiddie games so those won't be true titles!

Thanks guys, keep them comin....

I can't seem to find anything on this except architectural columns. But I like something like that so kids or whoever can say "let's go to colonnades!" or whatever!

I really didn't want to cater to just an "ol school" name and scare away kids either. I had thought of "Boomerang", while I was watching the boomerang channel one day with my daughter and kinda means the "ol school" is back around without actually sayin it in the title. I can see kids saying "let's go to boomerang"!

Nothing is stone I just like getting more ideas, thanks keep'em comin!

I like the "hoth" idea if I do the SW theme within.
