After a bunch of trial and error I finally got this DK Jr. monitor about dialed in but I'm having some trouble with the fine tuning, and I can't for the life of me find info on which of the 6 adjustment dials on the neckboard controls what.

Here's what I've done so far.
-To start the monitor was totally scrambled.

-I started with the H-Hold and got that dailed in. At this point the picutre looked pretty good.

-There were three minor issues left:
(a)Vertical pixel crawl on the edges of objects (FYI, this looks like horizontal pixel crawl because the monitor is vertically mounted). The main picture is stable, only the edges of some objects would crawl.
(b)A little too much red.
(c)A little too much blue.

-I started trying to fix the pixel crawl with the vertical hold adjustment on the monitor chasis. I had some minor success but all I was really able to do by adjusting this was switch the crawl from right to left (and vice versa) and get the crawl to slow down. After tweaking that for a while I gave up.

-Next, I started trying to adjust the colors but I can't for the life of me find info on which of the 6 knobs on the neckboard controls what. I'm a little shy about just randomly fiddling with it. I'm pretty sure that the last knob on the right is the control for green (FYI, this would be looking from the back of the monotor). So I assumed the next one in was red and the next one was is blue. I didn't touch the 3 knobs on the left side.

-Now here's the weird thing. When I adjust the knob in position 4 (which I thought was blue), I was able to fix the pixel crawl. I'm not seeing any change in the blue color though.

So, Does anybody know what the 6 knobs on the neck control?

Also, why would adjusting the knob in position 4 affect the pixel crawl?

Just to be clear, looking at the BACK of the monitor, these would be the 6 knobs with "1" being on the far left and "6" being on the far right.

1 2 3 4 5 6

they are labled on the neck board what they are.

they're is only 5 adjustment nobs on a sanyo for color and bias one bias is not there (i forget witch one) but all the color drives are.

also has it been caped if not that needs to be done and alot of thoes problems will go away.

if you are local to me bring it by and we can look at it.

Yep you're totally right. There are only five. There are 3 on the right, and then 2 grouped from the left (again looking at the monitor from the back so the knobs face away).

1 2 3 4 5

They are labeled
1-R Drive
2-B Drive

3-R B??? (Bias?)
4-B B???
5-G B???

I haven't pulled the monitor It's really tough to see back there. I had to use a mirror.

It looks like the chasis has been recently capped. Picture is really nice except that I probably need to adjust the red and blue drive a little. I'll try that tonight when I get home.

MUCH thanks on the offer to look at it in person! I'm not all that close to you but I do try to go to Dog P's arcade party. I may have even met you up there before if you've gone.

if you don't have any squishes or jailbars then I'd say you don't NEED caps just yet. I encourage you test the B+, make sure it's at 108V (test point BJ, ground to the metal frame, meter on 200VDC).

I would say it was maybe capped if you had to readjust colors and brightness. it's not uncommon for the white balance and brightnesses to get all thrown out of whack after capping it.

you can tell if new caps were installed by looking at the solder joints I guess. since it's seemed to crop up more lately, I would go one step further and reflow all the color drive transistors just for added measure, I've had a couple monitors I capped lose colors and such, so I do that on all the EZs I work on now. except I've redone all my Nintendo monitors now sooooo. lol

Thanks for the replies! I'm a total newb as far as monitors. I'm about 90% sure this montor was capped in the last few years. The caps are all shiney and dust free (unlike the rest of the board).

The picture is actually really good (except for slightly overblown blue, and maybe red). Most people would be perfectly fine with it but I've got a beautifully dialed in DK monitor and I'm spoiled on it. I'm pretty much trying to learn how to get a good picture to a great picture.

The pixel crawl/shimmer was (mysteriously) fixed by adjusting the center pot on the neckboard (red bias?) I'm definately curious as to why adjusting that pot would fix the crawl but there is definately cause and effect with the crawl when adjusting that pot. I also have this weird thing where when the H-Hold is not dialed in, the (scrambled) picture is too bright and the monitor will shut down. Once the H-Hold is stable, that stops, the blacks get blacker, and the colors look good.

Now that I know the left two pots are red and blue drive I'm going to fiddle with them to see if I can get them less bloomy. I'm just so unfamiliar with monitors that I wanted to make sure I wouldn't cause total chaos when I adjusted something. I've fiddled around enough to know that I can easily do more harm than good when I'm poking around with no game plan.

yea i have been to a couple of his parties we have probably have met.

you should be able to adjust your H-Hold with out going into shut down.
i would verify that your B+ is set correctally.

and hopefully it has been capped but did they do a full cap job or just the get well kit and did they replace the filter cap or not.

and if it continues to give you problems and you want a second pair of eyes to check it out the offer is always good.

Well, as the monitor warms up, so does my B+.

It starts at about 110 at warm up but then rises to 118 or so. It's not entirely stable either. It's settled down to an average of 118.5. It looks like the B+ pot has never been touched from the factory (the white smear on it is still intact).

Can I use a screwdriver to adjust the B+? Or should I head to radio shack?

you can bust it loose but it's better to replace it those pot's are junk.
also if you haven't caped it you need to do that it will screw with you till you do.
