Hi All,

I was out driving the other day when I came across an old arcade and decided to drop in to see if the owner may have been willing to part with any machines he wasn't using any longer (or should that be, were making him no money). He showed me about the place and brought me to a unit where there was a lot of machines in various states of disrepair, from driving cabs, to shooting games to poker machines. They were packed together so couldn't really get too close a look at them to really give them a look, and besides I don't have any room for the bigger cabs, I was just looking for basic upright cabinets.

After talking to the guy for a while about the state of the arcade industry he said he'd a few more cabs in the basement, so we headed down and right enough there were about 7 or 8 upright jamma cabs down there. I had a look throught them and saw some real beauts (the ones I can remember are Wrestlemania, War Gods, NBA Jam Extreme, Mortal Kombat 3, Last Bronx). Again these seemed to be in various states of disrepair, there was at least one which needed a monitor, though the cabinets themselves seemed in great condition, with all artwork intact.

I asked the guy how much he was looking for them and he said I could take them - just take them, for free!!!

Now my problem is that I don't live in a large house and I have no garage, no side entrance and my shed in my back garden isn't the biggest either ... so what should I do. I mean I'd love to take them all, but I just have't got enough space. Can anyone tell me which ones I should go for?

Being a Wrestling fan as a kid I've my heart set on the Wrestlemania game (though that's the one with no monitor), while my head tells me to at least go for the NBA Jam Extreme cabinet.

Go for the ones you want and have room for, then share your knowledge with other KLOV'ers and give them a chance at the remainder. Where are these at?

Please be by Minneapolis!

Go for the ones that need the least amount of work and are in the best shape. Look at the monitor and control panel. If they are jamma games, you can always swap out the board and marquee for a new game. So go for which one is in the best shape.

basically let others in on the deal. Take what you want first and let others take the rest. That way you make the guy happy by clearing the space and you get what you want too. Plus you help others out. That way everyone wins.

Plus, those others just might go out of their way to help you fix up whatever you decide to keep. Always good to have friends in the hobby.

I'm from Ireland (thought it would have shown in my profile, as I had to fill it out when registering). I updated it properly now though the cp.

Have a feeling that the NBA Jam won't be coming home with me anyway, as I've heard that you cannot remove oversized player control panels (the kind that jut out wider at the sides than the main part of the cab). Just wondering what else is gonna go tits up on me!

Dezbaz eah that's what I was thinking, when the guy told me they were free (saves him from putting them in a skip) I immediately said I'd take them (for fear of losing the chance if I said I'd let him know at a later date), so will be calling him on Monday to arrange things, I suppose then once I really get the chance to look at the cabs properly I'll know for sure what's viable for taking and what's not.

It's nice to have first dibs on the cabs, but a pain when ya can't take the one you really want. Gonna bring a screw gun anyway in case there's any chance some control panels screw off.

With regards to the other big cabs I mentioned I never really asked him about them so I don't know if they're free of if you'd have to pay for them. I reckon he would want cash as they were much newer machines.

If they are anything like our cabs, that NBA Jam panel should come off. It's usually held on with 4 bolts and should have quick disconnects for the wiring.

You have two things going for you... Beginners luck, and the luck of the Irish...

You should find some friends who are interested and see if they will help you load, and remove the games this guy doesn't want.

Welcome to the forums.

My friend, you just stumbled upon our dreams!!

At one point, i had the garage full, living room helf full, and even a cocktail in the bathroom!!

take em all! Then you can pick and choose want you want to keep, strip the rest and if you must, smash the cabs you dont want.

also- welcome! theres a wealth of knowledge here. Its noce to meet someboddy from my familys home country heh. We came over in the early 1900s

If they have mini-storage rentals over there fill one up and figure out what to do with them later. I'd take the Wrestlemania and MK3 if they are dedicated for sure. Hard to find cabs and decent games. War Gods is a rare cab but the game is ass.

cheers for the feedback lads. It felt hard not to act like the guys in this commercial when the guy told me I could take the cabs for free :) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S1ZZreXEqSY

I remember playing war gods a few years back and your right Mitsurugi-w, it was ass :) As you say too though, the cab might be rare. All the cabs seemed to be dedicated, well I'm kinda unsure about the last bronx, as it looks different to the one shown in the klov site.

I don't know if the games are actually inside the cabs. I highly doubt it.

On of the main reasons I'm so happy is that the people who sell cabinets in Ireland charge quite a lot for them, much more than the UK and especially the USA, which is a bit unfair.

caddilacman, whereabouts did your family come from?

Welcome and congrats on finding the stash... I checked the Flyer archive and there is another dedicated cabinet that was not shown on KLOV. So does it look like this one?

You should take all the cabs then post over on the Arcade Otaku forums about what you don't want to keep AFTER you get them all. There are a lot of folks from Ireland, England, etc... over there.

But for God's sake man, go get the cabs ASAP. ALL of them.

If you have any troubles with the cabs you pick up that you want you can always trade the other cabs for repairs. :)

Just watch out for Alan O'Grady. He's the stuff of legend over the greater UK and parts of NW Europe. Don't let him near any of your stuff. I'm not sure if the threads about him are still up on the Arcade Otaku forums or not, but he's known for his actions across multiple forums over in Europe.

It's like a law around here that you do before think. That way everyone is still thinking and you have a garage of games!

Oh, and welcome! :)

The weekend can't end soon enough for me (when would have ever thought I would say that??). Gonna ring the guy at 11am tomorrow and start arrangements for picking the stuff up. My aim was to do it on tuesday, but I'll see how that suits they guy.

My dad has a van but that will only hold 2 cabs at a time, so I'll have at least 2 trips ahead of me. I am gonna go with you guys advice and try take everything. After all, opportunities like this rarely arise.

Vectorjunkie, that looks like the last bronx cab alright ... I should've taken photos of them when I was there really.

I'll keep you updated on my progress.

Thanks again lads.
