Need a good Solder station??

Now this is curious to me. I've always had good luck with Weller
but my WES51 is on its third pencil after only a year.

After changing the tips a couple times, the element appears
to work its way into the pencil and I can't get a tight fit and the
tip will sit loose and not get hot enough.

My WTCPT at home is 10 years old and I've never had this
problem.

I've said this before and I'll say it again, the Hakko stations are far superior :)

We have a Hakko solder/desolder combo at work. It's been solid as a
rock since 1999.

i was at the dayton hamfest, and ran into a reseller who deals in "refurbished" hakko stations, i lost his business card, but he had a tent FULL of units... good prices on all of them.

I am currently using an Icon? unit, and i am addicted to the 10 second 450* temp warmup.

One day i will upgrade to the Hakko Solder/De-solder setup.

I have a XYTronic station (with the original tip) that I have been using for 10 years. Ready to use in seconds and rock solid temperature control.

I also have a Pace MBT-200 dual channel station with a soldering pencil and a desoldering tool.

Neither has ever let me down.

I have an Original Weller TC201 Station,
a Gordak 865 hot-air rework station with air and iron,
and i have a Metcal DP-500 Rework / Desoldering Station, 3 portasols and few mini torches and all the do dads..

i think i've been soldering for so long i reach for my iron before my coffee cup...LOL

Daniel.
