I cracked my neckboard on my Wells Gerdner Medium resolution monitor. I have several standard resolution 4900 chassis laying around. Can I use a neckboard off a standard resolution chassis in place of the broken medium resolution neckboard PCB? They look the same.

Depends on which WG model you're talking about.

If you mean a 4900/4915 or 5501/5515, then yes you can, although there is a slight difference in the values of a few ceramic caps, but the neckboard will still work.

If you mean a k7000/K7600, then usually the standard-res has an 8-pin neck socket and the med-res has a 10-pin neck socket, plus the med-res has one of the socket pins pulled out with a wire attached - so that won't work.

If you mean a K7400/K7500, then I think they are the same and can be swapped....

EDIT - just saw you were talking about 4900's, but I'll leave the rest of it for anyone else who may wonder...

Here is some photos of the cracked neckboard and the donor chassis. Also I can't find model numbers on both chassis.

Okay, I went and pulled my notes. If you want to use a 4900 neckboard on a 4915, swap the following parts:

K4900 ===> K4915
-----------------

R410 - 15K-ohm ===> 6.8K-ohm
R411 - 15K-ohm ===> 6.8K-ohm
R412 - 15K-ohm ===> 6.8K-ohm
C401 - 1200pf 500v Ceramic ===> 390pf 500v Ceramic
C402 - 1200pf 500v Ceramic ===> 390pf 500v Ceramic
C403 - 1200pf 500v Ceramic ===> 390pf 500v Ceramic

That's it...

How's about just fix the cracked one? :)

You CAN do it!!

(I did.....)

About to start that same repair on my K4600 neckboard. On a single sided board with so few components and big traces, this shouldn't be a big deal at all.

How about K4900 ===> K5515? Is that possible?

just the neckboard or the entire chassis? Can't do the entire chassis because of a linearity coil specific to the 5515 that can't be found.

If you want to convert a 4900 neckboard to a 5515 neckboard, I can find my notes again and figure it out....
