I'm thinking of picking up an NBA Showtime that currently does no boot. I've never worked on a game that was basically a PC. How hard are they to work on and how expensive is it to replace some parts.. like power supplys or the HD. Can this game be converted to use a thumb drive? Right now the only thing powering on is the monitor.

Can anyone give me any general info or things to look for on a game like this. I've never worked on one..are they prohibitively expensive to repair? Is it worth it to try and get it for a flip?

Its most likely a bad Hard Drive or a Power supply, its not a PC, its PCB with a HD attached, many people on here can help with a new HD, or you could upgrade to CF but if your gonna flip it then probably isnt worth going that route, check voltages, how far does it boot? easy fix thou

I'm going to go check it out monday because the guy works odd schedules. I'll know more then. All he could tell me was it started rebooting on its own until eventually it wouldn't boot at all. The marquee lights up and the monitor displays a blank screen. It never gave any errors that he noticed.

There is a LED window on the PCB itself that shows error codes and boot sequences. Need to know what it shows and what is pauses on before rebooting.

Reboots like that is a good indication of bad hard drive and or corrupt data. Many times they will reboot and finally after about 5 mins will give a bad data/read error. At very least, you probably have a need for a new hard drive and data.

Would it be worth it to upgrade it to the Gold edition if its not already? Also..does anyone have the LED codes?

are they listed in the manual?

have you tried the board in another cabinet?

Metered your 12/5/-5v lines?
