I'm a total newb to ROM swapping...does anyone know how I would go about swapping out Rev.3 ROMs with Rev.1 ROMs on NBA Jam TE?

I assume they have to be in the same order...is there like a layout manual for downgrade swapping?

I haven't bought the Rev.1 ROMs yet, but I want to make sure it's retard proof before I do so. I'd hate to buy the ROM set and mess up my PCB/ROMs by doing something stupid.

Its simple. Remove the two chips and replace them with the two new chips labeled the same way. Make sure the notch on the chips are facing the proper way and you're good to go.

Why go back to the earlier rev roms anyhow?

There are some cases where bugs are actually helpful to game play. In MK proto ver 0.9 Sub Zero recovers from special moves faster making him almost un stop able. Thats just one example.

Personally I'd rather have TE ver 1.0 thanks to the MK characters...

So, it's only two chips? I thought there were like a bunch of chips that needed to be swapped...no? How do I know which chips?

Yeah, I want to goofy characters. Sometimes it's hard to tell who the hell is who when I'm playing. My kids also don't know who any of the players are, lol.

Yeah, its only two chips. They are by themselves at the top of the row near the edge of the board.

I would like to know what exactly was changed in each revision for the NBA Jams. I know on the web you can find in detail what each MK revision did but not so much with the NBA Jams. I know between Rev 2.0 and 3.0 in NBA Jam TE they removed the MK characters but I wonder if they did any other tweaks between those two version.

The only difference between V.2 and 3 was some test menu tweaks added, the "special guests" were removed and replaced with real players, and a few new players were added. V.3 was basically just a lawsuit avoidance "upgrade" because the NBA didn't like the idea of MK characters being in there with all of the MK controversy going on at the time.

I also found that V.3 was more difficult, even on Super Easy.

Yeah my board is currently running V3 and I was thinking of changing the roms to 2.0, when you say "special guests" do you mean the hidden characters or... I also would be interested to know what players where added, know of a list online anywhere?

There's absolutely no Barkley in V3. My brother came to visit last week and was adament about wanting Barkley and was pretty pissed he wasn't available even by code. I think the Barkley code for V1/2 is for people who want to add Barkley to a team he isn't a part of...we did this on my V3 with Robinson.

And "special guests" means the MK characters and other goofy heads like Grim Reaper, etc. Not in V3... :(
