Hi guys,
I got my NBA Jam monitor recapped about 4 months ago and I noticed the other day that when I turn on the game all of the colors are washed out. After a couple of minutes it kicks in and the colors are normal again. Does this mean that it needs to be recapped again?

Thanks,
Troy

It really depends on who "capped it" for you. I happen to know that some monitor repair guys don't actually replace ALL the caps when they "rebuild or fix" your monitor for you. They just test the caps with an ESR meter, replace the ones that read as bad, change out a flyback, HOT, or voltage regulator (sometimes all three) make sure it's working, charge you and send it back with some of the original caps still in it.

The problem I have with that is - if some of the 20+-yr-old caps have dried out to the point of failure and need replacing, then the odds are that the others are close to failing and should be replaced at the same time, especially since the cost of a cap kit it usually under $15 anyway, and a full cap kit doesn't take that long for an experienced repair guy. And you won't have to worry about your monitor having problems again a few months down the road....

Okay, I recapped it and put it back in and it looks great again. The colors are nice and bright right when you turn it on. The only cap I couldn't find that was in the kit was C401. Not sure where the heck that one is, but everything looks fine for now. Thanks guys for your help!
