Had this game since 93 so I'm changing the battery which was never changed, so obviously game isn't keeping records. I replaced the Ray o vac Br 2325 with a Renata 3V CR2325 which is supposedly compatible, but the screen goes haywire when installed sort of like squiggly test patterns..flashing the ROM test occasionally. Has anyone had a issue replacing the battery? Seems straightforward.
Many thanks

Semi-educated guess: isn't there a "Clear CMOS" jumper on the board? it's been years, but I thought you needed to boot the game with a jumper set to clear CMOS if you've replaced the battery. it does not appear to be documented in the manual. and i could very well be wrong (first time for everything).

Mine was a simple switch without any issues. Did the battery leak into the socket? You might want to check around the battery for cold/broken solder joints.

I know sometimes you have to go into menu and restore factory settings also when battery is replaced but this sounds like possibly a different issue.

Thanks

Thanks all..No leak..No damage. I don't think I ever opened the back of the machine.. It's just so odd because putting old battery back in just gives an error...Game plays fine just won't keep data. I'm going to try another battery..highly unlikely but I'll eliminate that

That's very strange. If you check the new battery with your DMM, is it putting out 3v?

Battery

Well.. The machine clearly doesn't like the battery. Someone suggested replacing battery while turned on and it passed the CMOS test. Thought it was resolved but machine shut off after a minute or 2..Everything worked except saving data with the dead battery. I'll try testing the battery next but nothing makes sense. Thanks

I would play the game without a battery for an hour and see what happens. Seems like you have another issue here...
