Ending up selling my nba jam and everything worked great. Buyer went to turn it on this morning and the game turns on and you get the title screen and then it keeps resetting after 5 seconds and does the same thing. Loose connection? Check the power supply for correct voltage to the board? Reseat the chips?

check the voltage at the chips and power supply, check the battery, if the chips are coming up green in the prom test reseating them prolly won't do anything but worth a try.

The Several NBA jam board that I have do not not have a hard drive.

Here are Some things

You might want to try the easiest repairs first.

If you have a voltage meter check the battery make sure is not dead.
The battery should be the silver coin looking device in the picture below.

You might have oxidation on your jamma connection. Pull the connector off and clean the Edge connector with a soft pink eraser. The black oxidation will rub on to the eraser. You will need to clean the eraser. Rubbing it on cloth will keep the eraser clean.

Since NBA jam does seem to take more current to run. Sometime it will push a marginal powers supply over the edge.

I have restored a handful of these all with this issue. Just about every one had either a bad power supply, which i turned up the voltage or got a new one, Or it had a bad Jamma Edge connection. Tell him to reseat the main connector and if the power supply has a little on it ask him what color it's glowing.

you've been saying this a lot lately, couldn't say it better myself either (this is standard operation for any new board i get), more people should do this with every board they get as well.

here's how to meter voltage: http://forums.arcade-museum.com/showthread.php?t=215552

You're welcome ;)

If it's the original grey Peter Chou power supply, it is going to require some attention that is probably beyond your scope... I know how to work them over, but not everyone is crazy like me.

More than likely it's too low OR too high of voltage on the +5 rail. The +5 adjustment pots get dirty over time and do all sorts of weird shit as a result. Oftentimes the game will not power up cause the power supply is in shutdown. There's a particular tool I use for putting a +5 load on a power supply with the game unplugged so I can violently wipe the +5 pot.

You will not have this. :) so meter yours first according to my thread Broods linked you to.

once you change the battery, the board should automatically pop up the CMOS error and say factory defaults restored, but just as a precaution to MAKE SURE go into Test Mode -> Utilities -> Full Factory Restore.

and hopefully... that's all there is to it.

well its running good now but I will have him pick up a battery as he will eventually need one. Thanks guys I really appreciate it. :)
