I gotta say, these boards are great. This is my first restore project and I've fixed a few things on my cab already from the great info on here.

I have a problem with my power setup due to a hack job from the previous owner. I think NBA jam is supposed to run off of 4 fuses, mine is running off of two. The wires to the coin door bulbs are cut and the wires to 1 counter are cut (the other counter is gone) The wires leading in and out of two of the fuses are not there, although one of the fuses is still in place. Also one of the prongs coming off of the transformer doesn't have a wire coming from it. I've attached photos of this.

How can I go about fixing all this? The wire colors don't match the colors in the manual I found online, and I really don't know much about power supplies anyway. So HELP! I need to know how to wire the 4 fuses properly and which ones lead to the coin door and counter.

THANKS!

Thanks for the PM Shawn. This is a 4 player NBA Jam cab, with 4 coin doors (two with the coin input and two lock boxes.

I believe this is the same cab used for TMNT, Simpsons and maybe Mortal Kombat, so the power setup may be the same. Not sure on that one, but if anyone is familiar with those cabs and can help.... I really want a proper setup (whatever that may be) and I want the coin door lights and the counter to work. Again, any help on where the wires need to connect would be great.

Thanks for the speedy replies!!!!!!!

yea that's a kit conversion on a konami cab, not the same as MK, the Control panel is a different size from the original dedicated. It's going to take a good amount of work but you can get that harness in order (you'll just have to match the jamma edge connector pins with the right places of the cab.)

the stickers on the coin door look like The Simpsons

Thanks Broodwich, good call on the coin door stickers. If this was formerly a Simpsons cab, then maybe I should look up the Simpson's wiring spec?

The coins are working properly with the jamma board, I can add a player and the game functions normally. The wiring to the coin door bulbs and the counter have been snipped, along with one of the "in" and "out" wires to one of the fuses, it's the bottom fuse from the picture above. Are coin door bulbs usually wired from the Jamma? I'm a total noob at this, so maybe I'm just misunderstanding.

If anyone has good pictures of a similar wiring harness I would love to see em!!!

i would expect the simpsons harness is what's in there, if you can match up the wire colors at the area where their cut they should match up if it wasn't cut up to bad, you could mostlikely crimp them back together or add a short amount of any color wire between them (covering with shrink wrap when finished). That's for at the coin door.

Get a Simpsons Manual in .pdf and check to see if the wiring colors match i'm thinking they should as long as that's the original harness.

Keep in mind nba jam needs +5v for the sound to work which if that's a konami cab i don't think it had and would have had to be added in when it was converted.

Just for a reference shot this is what the power supply section in my NBA Jam game looks like..

Thanks Alpha Tron.

Your machine doesn't look like it has any fuses, is that correct? Or are they inside that silver box? Also, those two little yellow wires going down toward the bottom of the picture...are they leading to the coin door lights?

I think I need to lead a wire from the transformer to a fuse and break it out to the coin door lights, is that correct?

You don't have to.
The fuse is there simply as a precaution so if the game has an influx of power that the fuse will blow instead of causing damage to the parts of the game.

Thanks Alpha Tron.

The fuses are mounted in the metal box that the transformer is on and Yes, you are correct the two little yellow wires go to the coin door light bulbs.

I running out the door for lunch but I will be happy to take more pictures for you if you like afterwards lunch.

Just a warning my typical lunch can take 3 to 4 hours.

Oh by the way the bracket that holds the Power supply is hand made. Placement of the power supply was dictated by existing holes in the wood and the length of the existing wires. I got My NBA Jam game in a half taken apart state. I am almost sure that this was the original position of these parts. While the PCB and Power supply was taken off. The Wiring harness was still bolted to the cab.

damn that's a long lunch!

that's definitely the original placement of the power brick box, and the boards look like their in the right spot (i actually stole your pictures so i have some reference to putting mine back together).

Fellas, this is a huge help. I don't know if you are willing to take pictures inside the casing :S but this is definitely something to go on. More pictures would be appreciated. Do you know where those yellow wires lead to on inside the silver casing?

Also, I THINK the coin door stickers may be from a TMNT cab. The Simpsons player 1 was Red whereas mine is blue. I'll have to look up the manual for the TMNT cab to see if my wire colors match up, maybe that will unlock the mystery to my Shredded power supply.

THANKS

ask and you shall receive took these when i replaced the AC power cable in my MK1:

see attached image of coin door stickers. maybe that is a TMNT cab like Gutz said. also i see there's a purple sticker there, while there was no purple sticker on the simpsons i don't think.

I have no problems taking as many pictures as you need and Yes, I do take long lunches. I was talking to graphic company which produce and selling commercials.

Those little yellows wire just plug into the output of the transformer as far as I can tell.

Here are a few pictures I took of the inside of the cab and Of the coin door.
The coin counter is on the floor of the coin bucket.
The back of the transformer and you can see there are two fuses.

yup and here's some pictures of the inside of the one i'm about to restore vs my buddies. (btw my buddies is currently converted to max hang time but is 98% the same).

In all honesty you should try and restore it back to how the TMNT/Simpsons was internally and go from there it would be much cheaper and easier and just as good.

So they come right off the transformer eh? I imagine this is the transformer. Could the empty plug be the correct pin to connect the wires? I assume I would need 1 power split 4 ways and a ground going to each?

Also, I looked up the TMNT manual and one of the pins from the jamma connector says it leads to the counter, should I run that wire to the counter below the coin doors?

Thanks again for all your help and bearing with me! After the clue that those stickers belonged to a different cab, I scrapped off some of the black paint on the sides and sure enough, there was a the silver building from the TMNT art. The previous owner painted over the decals and slapped on an NBA logo on the side. That would explain a lot!

why does it really matter if it was a TMNT or Simpsons? players 1 and 2 are still JAMMA only, and players 3 and 4 is completely irrelevant anyway, because you need Midway harnesses for them. just saying.
