Picked up an NBA Jam a few days ago and starting to strip everything for a restore.

For those who own the cab, what do these top two carriage bolts do at the top of the front/kickplate? Looking at everything and have no idea what purpose they serve.

Asking cause if they weren't there originally, I'll patch them/fill it with dowels, sand smooth…if they were there I'll keep them as part of the restore to match and keep the design the same.

I think he referring to the ones marked in blue. the yellow ones are probably asset tag. the blue ones I think they are supposed to be there. I dont know why the blues ones are there. If not for structural support, then Maybe as prep holes for a gun game?

the plexi cover can be removed as that was probably for a permit. same with the asset tag screws.

I didn't read that so well and jumped to the pic *facepalm*. The carriage bolts are in my factory jam cab. The small holes above the coin door are not. Hopefully you didn't fill/sand then already.

Yup, haven't started on anything like that yet. Just looking at things and coming up with a restore plan.

The carriage bolts marked in blue hold a 1" square dowel used to secure the control panel.

I thought of a possible reason for those holes. Maybe to secure cabinets together. connect 2 cabinets on either side with a steel bar, and now you cant easily move them to get behind to steal the boardset or the coins. I have seen operators drive a screw into sides of cabinets to secure them for that reason.

on driving games I believe midway and atari had a hole with a bolt in it on top towards the back to connect linked cabinets.

Ah, I see what you're talking about, but that seems pretty unlikely to me. You're thinking operators may have put bars across the front of the cabinets right under the control panels to keep the cabs together?

dude you have a problem!!!

you need to find the dedicated sportstation cabinet. its pretty hard to find as most were kits or conversions to the showtime cabinet. I have one and I have the nba jam pcbs to play in generic jamma. cabinets.
