My NBA jam works fine on the coin and I usually just coinbit manually but how to switch it to freeplay?

I tried flipping the dips but apparently not doing something right .

Game plays fine otherwise

If the dip switch does not work. Then you have to set it in the service menu.
Test switch wasn't working. Just read a thread were the +5 was too low. Was high enough to run game but not both to get in test mode by the service switch.

Thinking this could be the issue because when I got the game the plus 5 was to low too boot game so I I turned it up and all good but this will be easy to test!

if your test switch doesn't work you can access test mode by turning UJ2-8 to ON. worth noting that the test switch can't be momentary press, it has to be a hard on/off slide switch like the dedicated cabinets came with. that's why using the dipswitch is the surefire way to do it right.

to turn free play on using Adjustments, you have to change UJ1-1 to ON to enable CMOS COINAGE. otherwise with DIPSWITCH COINAGE you have to set multiple dipswitches to get free play.

If the test switch isn't working its best to resolve that issue. Either replace or fix. There are many benefits to having a working test switch. Much more then just free play. Its worth fixing. Harnesses, headers, sticky buttons. I have had to replace a good amount of those original style buttons on both older williams and 90's midway. They get gummed up and stop working. Solder joints, broken ground braid across button assembly exc.

I know I don't want to be pulling cabs out to access the board when I should be able to work with soft dips from the front of the machine.

Excellent ,that's what I was after. I like knowing the manual over rides not that I wouldn't prefer to use soft dips but the game works perfect otherwise so I'll go for the .......wait for it.......... SLAM DUNK here! 🤣

Can never resist a bad pun..lol.
