Hey guys,

This, tonight, has turned into a two part question i hope some of you can help with.

1) I can't seem to get my newley aquired cab into the menu features. I have a switch that has test on it which by all assumption when flicked should activate the menu screen. It doesn't, any reason why...and

2) After 2-3 games the machine resets itself. No idea why? I have 3 pins sitting idle next to the machine, not on. Could i be overloading the power in the garage? Nothing else goes off ie: the Tv lights etc...stumped

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

On a side while i think of it, can i throw TE into the cab? What would a board cost me?

Cheers,

Jarrod

It's resetting itself probably because the power supply is a little too low. Measure the voltage between the red wire and the black wire, dc setting on your meter... should be +5 or slightly higher.

The test switch may not be working because a wire is cut or it's not plugged into the board.

I believe on NBA Jam's that were truly dedicated, it didn't have a switch you flicked it had one you pushed. So maybe yours isn't dedicated?

A dedicated NBA Jam should have a switch that you slide left or right for test. I noticed he's from Australia so I'd be curious to know if what their dedicated cabs look like.

I'll take a photo tonight for you, but yes it's definatley dedicated and definatley has a switch.

The look is exactley the same btw, only thing is the different cp, which imho looks better as it has the wood grain look instead of the solid colours that you guys usually see.

Will check the voltage and did look over the switch. All seems ok, will double check it tonight though just in case.

Update

Just to let you guys know, checked the voltages and all were ok.

Got someone over to have a look and changed the power supply just in case. It turns out the guy helped build/design the units here in Oz for Lesiure & Allied. After a bit more mucking around he remember that they put a extra power box in the unit (i think) to stop ppl getting free credits out of the machine.

It would detect a surge in electricity and shut the machine of. Don't know if it happend in the US, but kids in the 90's were shocking the machines somehow and causing it to put credits on!!

Once this was removed it has been fine....so far.

2) I want to put this machine on free play now but can't seem to find out how. I beleive that it has something to do with the dip switches but the manual doesn't have anything on this for some reason.

How do i find out what the dip switches do please.

Thanks for the help.

Free play should be set in the test menu...its with the same options to change the number of coins per credit.

pulled up NBA Jam in MAME to get the dipswitch settings for you.

first way is to retain "Dip Switch Coinage" and activate Free Play:

second way is to change it to "CMOS Coinage", after which you can activate Free Play through the Adjustments menu:

hope these help. if I'm not mistaken the original manual had an incorrect dipswitch table, but maybe I'm talking out my ass too. :)
