NBA Jam - converted (kind of) to TE cab: is it worth it

I have what appears to be an original NBA JAM (see control panel and side stickers overlaid).

Question: should I restore this cabinet? (Are they too common to be worth it)

Question: if so, should I retire back to NBA JAM or a TE version cabinet?

Then sell the T.E. board to finance the original one and a marquee! The cpo still looks great!

If you're looking to restore it just to flip it, then it all depends on what you're getting the cabinet for. Repro side art is expensive for NBA jam.

I am almost done restoring mine, it was a two player NFL blitz that got converted to a hunting game and I've restored it back to a 4 player NBA jam but I loved the game as a kid and it's a game that will stay in my personal collection.

The TE vs OG battle rages on. There are perks to both. I prefer the original however. It's mainly personal preference.

I want to keep the cabinet. And maybe put a 6-1 switcher in and keep OG and TE and maybe hang time. Kind of like a multi-MK cabinet.

The t-moldings are rough.

And I saw awesome art work from Boogie I think is the user name.

So it made me wonder, should I drop another couple hundred and restore the imperfections on the outside.

The cabinet is in great shape, minus the sun damage.
You should keep it a Tournament Edition.
You have a choice of three players on most of the teams versus only the two players on the original, plus the option of using the Mortal Kombat Players.
Way..............................better!!!

Yeah, that thing is a survivor - I'd give it some TLC where needed but leave it TE. Have the roms burned so you can play with MK & other characters. Nothing is as fun as dunking on people with the Grim Reaper!

I forgot to mention - My Cabinet has an identity crisis:

All original Jam artwork
CPO original
Bezel has TE
Side Art has TE stickers overlayed
Marquee is TE

So that's why I was asking should I go back to OG or finish all TE. Or just leave it.

I know it sounds like I am splitting hairs.....

Keep it as a tournament edition!!!

If your wanting an original NBA Jam board set, I also have a fully functional NBA Jam board set with the cables I could sell you so you have both boards.

I would avoid adding a multi pcb switcher to midway boards. The sound boards are fragile to voltage and the main pcb has a couple of proprietary chips I wouldn't want to take a chance on.

Unless you know for sure the boards are going to be on all the time and just switched a/b for audio and video, that would be as far as I would go with this hardware.

Oh and repairs are sometimes a mystery, but mecha and zenomorph are the resident wizards around these parts
