Hi guys I wanted to make everyone aware of a seller on ebay that made some insulting remarks on a message to me today. I offered the guy 30 dollars for a neo geo marquee and told him that i felt his 120.00 price was a bit steep considering I have seen and been the recipient of a machine that sold for 200.00. The seller homerecusa then sent me a message that was condescending, insulting, and outright unnecessary. It was obvious he tore apart a cab and threw all the parts on ebay in the hopes of gouging anyone that needed them. I made him aware that I would let the forumns I am a member of know of his practice of handling potential buyers. His response to that was, "people like me" he was quoting me, "create the availability of parts for the collectors to enable restorations to take place, but the "holier than thou" argument because I parted the machine out never gets old." I felt that this was a very insulting comment about the collectors community, and it is very unfortunate that he is such a bad representation of an arcade reseller. With that said I understand that all are not like this. I have dealt with many arcade companies that are not this insulting nor unprofessional. Sorry to rant i just felt if anyone sees his stuff on ebay think twice. If anyone wants the entire conversation pm me thanks.

I wouldn't have bothered making an offer on something priced like that. It's a recipe for upsetting a seller - even if it's clearly not worth $120.

He had no right to treat you like shit though, there's a few fuckers on here that have the same problem. They think they have gold, and if you shoot them an offer of less they come UNGLUED. I don't pay "good" prices on shit in "junk" condition.

I say forget about the item, let the guy sit on it, he's just trying to bait a sucker. I could care less about what he said about our community, he's just dirt-merchant. Dirt-merchants can sit on their junk.

I think all these asshat merchants watch too much pawnstars and fail to realize that because other clowns want 25k for a dk jr on ebay it doesn't mean that they ever actually get that price.

Welcome to Ebay ;-p. Ive found that reasonable offers on overpriced stuff always results in them counter offering with 5 dollars off don't waste your time.

I was offering him what i have offered vendors at trade shows for similar product. They have the cost of hauling this stuff and paying for a table etc. His big expense is 5 bucks to ebay. WOW

Ebay is full of morons like this and they are helping to steer more and more people away from the site. Ebay is still huge and the place to buy and sell, but it has deteriorated significantly.

Never give a rationale for your offer - if they are the type to offend, it will just give them something to call you 'wrong' over, and if they aren't the type to offend it's not going to make any difference.

I've not had a lot of trouble with offers on ebay - either people take me up on my offer or they don't (usually they don't), and that's that. I wish folks would be more realistic with their pricing (especially when they've had the thing listed for like 6 months - dude, it's NOT GOING TO SELL), but I know that if I wait, I'll find what I'm looking for at a reasonable price. I don't think I've had one be nasty to me yet.

Case in point: Roger Sharpe's book 'Pinball' has 3 listings on Ebay right now: one at $50, one at $65, and one at $99.99. They aren't going to sell (the $50 copy has been up for a while and failed to sell repeatedly). When I wanted a copy, I set my search, and I waited. I think I waited only 2-3 months before a copy came up at around $25 or $30 (a reasonable price, and one that shows up pretty regularly) and I bought it with no other bids. Just be patient, and stick to your price point - whatever you want will show up again.

He will get his own back , when all those parts are still at his house after weeks !! , he will have too much pride to drop them to where they should be , so his Marquees will end up holding back dirt in his chook sheds !!!

This One? I believe I have the CP for this as well.

Without seeing the actual text of your message to him, how do we know you weren't really being condescending? If he thinks it's worth $120, then offering him 1/4 of it would be insulting (to him, anyway)

All I said to him is I have seen these as a whole for 200-250, So I would be willing to pay 30 for the marquee?

I offered the guy 30 dollars for a neo geo marquee
Nothing wrong with a lowball offer.
and told him that i felt his 120.00 price was a bit steep considering I have seen and been the recipient of a machine that sold for 200.00.
Lecturing him about why you don't like his asking price is a different story. He can ask anything he wants for his stuff. You don't like the price? Don't buy it.
I felt that this was a very insulting comment...
So then he lectures you back and you're insulted? This guy (or gal) may indeed be a bit of a Jagmo (Lord knows this hobby is full of them) but I can't agree on this one. Make an offer, keep your mouth shut and pass if you don't get the price you want.

Sounds to me like you insulted him first with your offer.
He has it listed for $119.99 BIN with FREE SHIPPING. He did not offer the Best offer feature. So you email him with a lowball offer of $30 ( even though he was not accepting offers). What do you think this will cost to ship? I would guess $20 - $30. Then you want to come here and drag his name through the mud.
