Naomi / Naomi 2 differences -- school me -- especially about Net DIMM

Since I'm officially trigger-pulled on a Naomi 2 system, it's research time. I'm planning to netboot the shit out of it with a custom front end and a PC sitting side-by-side with it.

Here's the big questions I can't seem to google: Is there a Naomi 1 Net DIMM and a Naomi 2 Net DIMM or are they the same thing? Can I use a Naomi 1 Net DIMM with a Naomi 2? Can I run Naomi 2 games with a Naomi 1 Net DIMM or will I be limited to Naomi 1 unless I get a different DIMM?

As far as I know all the net dimms are Naomi2 but I could be wrong. Either way, all the net dimm is doing is allowing you to interface to the naomi with a PC. If you have a Naomi2 motherboard you can play all the naomi 1 and naomi 2 games. The limitation will be the controllers. Some games use analog joystick and you also have your shooting and driving games. Some of the games that use analog stick can be changed in settings to use a standard stick.
I highly reccomend using a wireless N bridge to connect. Its just as fast as a cable and you have no wires to worry about. Im running a Naomi2 in a universal cab wireless netboot.

The NetDimm is universal between Naomi 1 and Naomi 2. The only real stat on the netdimm to pay attention to is the size of memory in it. I have yet to see any game I can't netboot with my 256mb netdimm. The 512mb dimm boards are more for the chihiro, triforce.

The same netdimm works on either Naomi 1 or Naomi 2. A naomi 2 board can play all Naomi 1 games. Its backwards compatible.

You'll need to google about the netbooting process. Remember that some games won't boot if the naomi board settings are incorrect for the game, like # of Players, screen orientation (vert or hori). Yes that is a setting on the board. It doesn't actually flip the screen but the naomi wants to know what the screen is.

My naomi2 setup is the cartridge version, Can I still do this?

It would be useful for when I have people over; I always run Virtua Fighter 4 Evo in mine, but people don't really like it and prefer Virtua Tennis; and its kind of annoying to have to open up the cab, unscrew the cart, replace the new one and bla bla bla, especially when you have people over. I'd be interesting in doing this..

Ooh, I know this one!

Yes you can, if you can find a "Net DIMM". The Net DIMM plugs into the same cartridge slot as your games, just like a GD-ROM kit does. A Naomi 2 is a Naomi 2, the cartridge or "DIMM" is what determines where the game comes from.
