I recently sold a working Naomi GDRom setup here on the forum. It worked great for me with my Monkey Ball setup. I never had any issues with it. The buyer purchased a Capcom Vs. SNK 2 setup and has stated that when he tries to load it he is getting an Error 24. The manual says that this error is referring to not being able to find the GDRom disc. The fixes include removing and reloading the GDRom disc and checking the disc for scratches. I've done a little research to try to help figure out what might be going on but the only thing I'm seeing is that in a couple instances the discs had light scratches but after they were "repaired" (cleaned and/or buffed) they worked fine. In one situation the guy swapped out GDRom drives because he got this error and the game (CvS2, coincidentally) worked fine in the other drive. But when he tried a different game in that new drive he got the Error 24 and swapped back to the first GDRom drive and it worked fine in there. I know almost nothing about the Naomi setup and the only game I had for it, Monkey Ball, worked perfectly. The GDRom drive had a new laser installed (was done shortly before I purchased the drive) and tested fine by the guy who installed it, and obviously by me too. So there has to be some explanation for what's going on. Can anyone help figure out what might be happening and how he (the buyer) might be able to fix the error?

The GD-ROM tray lid must be on correctly, let's start there. I don't know the error it gives you if the lid is missing, might be 24. Failing that, I'd have him open the lid on the GD-ROM and check for damage from shipping. You didn't ship the disc inside the drive, did you?

Error 24

Display: GD-ROM IS NOT FOUND.
Cause: The NAOMI GD-ROM disk can not be recognized.
Countermeasures: Reinsert the NAOMI GD-ROM disk. Make sure that the GD-ROM disk is not scratched or contaminated.

Ive had a laser go bad, dont remember if I was getting 24 though...but I did find a cheap fix for it...The whole laser assembly was identical to the one in a dreamcast. I had a spare dreamcast sitting around so I pulled it and swapped it. I think theres 2 different model GDROMs that sega used tho so it may not all be the same. I think I had 2 different drives before.

I did not ship him the disc. Just everything else for the Naomi setup.

Yeah, the laser was just replaced a few months ago and hasn't had more than a couple hours of use since then.

Well, I guess it might be worth finding out what's involved in replacing the laser for him. As I mentioned above it was just replaced a few months back but maybe in shipping the drive a couple times (to me then to him) something has happened to it. Sucks. But that would be interesting if this game just happened to be the version of the GDRom that doesn't work with this drive. Anyone have more info about this possibility?

I prob know what he did if you sent him the whole setup. I made the mistake of switching the power from the IO board and GDROM drive before and I blew my drive. Make sure hes got the right power connector plugged in else your not responsable

That just crossed my mind yesterday too. I had to look it up online everytime I plugged everything in because those two power connectors are the same size.

Yeah I did it once on accident and I believe it kept giving me error 24 after I did it since I blew something in the drive. Its an easy mistake to make that kinda makes you kick yourself in the ass after you did it.
