Hi all,
Started a tech thread about a World Kicks that had a potential cartridge problem, and I have verified that the problem is in fact the cartridge. Does anyone do repair work on these Naomi carts? If I can't get find a repair person for this cart, the game is going to the junkyard :(

Thanks!
-Mike

surprised you're asking this, lol

everyone should know it's channelmanic. :)

I'd PM him, he's very helpful when you ask him to help with that kind of stuff.

Thanks for the pr0pz!

Hey Mike,

If the connectors are OK then it's probably those pesky little buffer chips on the cart. They tend to fry if the voltage goes over 5.2v as they are VERY voltage sensitive.

those tiny lcx245/373 (don't really remember) chips? i remember replacing some of them, too bad, it did not last long. should have replace them all :(

Yeah, those tiny ones... I just shotgun them all at once.

My Capcom vs SNK just died when I went to coin it up. Where do I get these buffer chips? Channel do you fix these carts? Can I just send it to you??

99% of time its just these buffers. I have repaired hundreds of these ROM Bds with bad buffers. They always fail on everything we put them on from Naomi thru Lindbergh. Yes those failing I/O Bds in Lindbergh have two of buffers on them. Most likely this is all thats wrong with your CvsSNK as well as the World Kicks. Oh and yes, replace them all.

Are you referring to the 74f245 chips? If so, are there any variants on mouser or digikey that can be used as an alternate?

I am referring to all of the 16 bit buffers. Not the 8 bit ones. All of the 16245 and 16373. There are two different sizes / package types used depending on pcb.

I'm finally getting to working on this, I'll take some photos of the PCB just to confirm that I'm replacing the correct parts?
