So I got my hands on this high milage (and very dirty) MS8. I have had a quick look over it and it looks to be in fixable condition.
There a a few things to note. One area of the board just behind the filter caps looks to have gotten really hot. This is not the first time I have seen this and typically it is associated with some level of pad damage to the pads of the transistor and usually by the time it is picked up the transistor solder is shot and the transistor itself wobbly. This typically results in a "not tested" state (don't get me started with not damn tested).
So I guess it's definitely time for some cleaning and repair and while I am doing it I may as well recap it.
I guess I am both documenting the rebuild and as most of this stuff I have just worked out myself asking for some outside input and advice.

My current plan is a full board clean and recap with a closer look at that transistor. I am thinking I may attempt some additional cooling as like I said this appears to be a fairly common issue. I however have no idea how I am going to achieve this, but I have a few ideas.

Typically i leave mist other parts in place however someone recently told me that I should remove the Flyback and those 3 upright boards and clean and resolder them. Not sure about this so interested in what others think about this (and anything else).

I don't really know what tube I will run this on when it is done but I have a few candidates just need to check compatibility.
