Nanao MS8-29F Degauss Question

This might be a simple question but I don't want to screw it up. On my Nanao MS8-29F chassis the pinout includes the 5 video lines, 2 power lines and 2 degauss lines. I assume these 2 degauss lines at one time ran to a switch to manually degauss the monitor. The cab (Astro City candy cab) was pretty much stripped so there was no switch when I picked it up. So, I assume I need to install a switch to degauss the monitor. Can I just run these wires to a normal push-button switch or do they need something special? And yes, I realize the monitor needs some serious time with a degaussing wand once I get it installed in the cab... I haven't gotten that far yet. :)

Alright, so here's your post from that thread:
You need to wire that degauss button. As soon as it's wired and you bush the button it will fix itself. Trust me.

Here's a rough drawing of how to wire it. This is how I wired mine and another member here used this pic to wire his. Both worked great afterward. These MS8's absolutely need the manual degauss to be wired.

So a quick question about this. My monitor runs off of 100V so I have a step-down transformer to get the power to the right level. There's no other isolation transformer for the monitor. Just the power from the wall into the step-down transformer into the monitor. How would I go about wiring up this switch? Needless to say I'm beyond confused... maybe I'm making this more complicated than it needs to be. I just don't want to blow anything up.

Oh, I can get pics of the wiring any whatnot if that would help too.
 
Okay, so in "I'm an idiot" terms... is this basically saying that the 2 degauss wires are just wired directly to the incoming power (with a switch in there to turn it on/off)? If so, would I just need to wire these directly into the 100V line coming from the step-down transformer or the 115V (or whatever) going into the step-down transformer? Or am I completely missing the point?

Yes, the two degauss wire are basically wired to your monitor power supply /100V. Just put a momentary contact switch in circuit on one of the wires. Whenever you press the button it closes the circuit and sends voltage through the degauss circuit. Once you let go of the button it opens the circuit so your degaussing coil doesn't burn out. Please disregard the ISO transformer, this was in there by mistake.

Alright. Wired it up as I was supposed to and got nothing out of the degaussing coils. I tested the switch alone and that is fine. I'm losing the signal somewhere else. But I did borrow a hand held degaussing coil from a buddy and used that a couple times. The colors looks great now except for the four corners. But I'll spend more time on that once the monitor is mounted back in the cabinet so I can work with any "environmental variables" from the electronics inside the cab.

But I'll throw the question out there... did I do something wrong with the degaussing wiring? Of the 2 wires I ran one to one of the AC lines coming from the 100V step down transformer. The other I ran to one side of a switch. I then ran a separate wire from the other side of that switch to the other AC line coming from the 100V step down transformer. At that point, when the monitor is powered up so should be the degaussing coil (once the push button is pressed), yes?

You wired it right. Whenever you press the button it you should have heard a click or something and then seen the degaussing effect / rainbow on the monitor before it cleared up. Pretty much the same way it looks on any monitor with a manual degaussing switch.

That's what I thought. But no, I didn't get a click, no crazy colors on the screen, just nothing happened.
