I'm working on a Nanao MS-2931 in a Blast City(Bass Fishing) cabinet.

First, can I safely power it on the bench with 120v? It is a 100v monitor.

Second, it does not display a picture, but makes a couple of relay clicking noises about 3 seconds apart, as if the degaussing coil fires. There is no neck glow, and jumping the horizontal and vertical sync lines does not "wake it up", nor does feeding it a different frequency input.

-The flyback does not appear cracked, melted, nor burned.
-Both fuses on the chassis are good
-Horizontal output transistor tests good

Any hints? Or places in the US to send the chassis to? I don't want to spend $600 for a new monitor.

No.

Change all the caps, inspect for cold solder, test VR, then try it again...

Upon further examination and looking at the manual:

-The HOT is Q511. It is a C5244, and has a base-emitter short. I can't seem to find one of these, and NTE doesn't have a replacement.

-There is a sticky brown substance(black death goo), that has leaked out, and is touching 2 of the HOT's legs, but doesn't seem to be causing any problems.

-The manual states the monitor can be powered with 90-130VAC, so pulling out the variable AC transformer wasn't necessary.

Now what?

That was too easy

Something else is causing the problem...took the old HOT out of circuit, it tests OK. Put the new one on the board, it tests shorted(haven't powered it on).

Anyone have a schematic for this monitor?
