This is from a game which was recently a victim of a power surge. The small fuse near the B+ filter keeps blowing. Bad flyback, or is there another possible culprit?

Well, if you got a surge, check the regulator and the rectifying diodes. It's possible you lost your HOT also, but maybe not...

Ill get it on a bench this weekend, but other than flybacks and caps I have no clue with these things. Care to educate me? Also just wondering if a Nanao is even worth it.

Depends on which Nanao it is. The dual-res ones are worth having around for obvious reasons.

It's not hard to follow the ac input to the regulator and the diodes in the PS section. Check them for shorts. The HOT is over by the flyback and can be checked for shorts, too. And obviously check the fuse...

Best I could get, but heres the PS section, lots of corrosion, some heat, but nothing looks blown or shorted. Anything I can check with a multimeter? I did notice the focus/screen pots on the flyback are not turning freely, they are sticky and jerky, if that makes any sense. Makes me suspect the flyback, looks like Bob doesnt even carry them for Nanao.

Well, check the fuse, that big transistor on the side wall, feel the top of the big filter cap to see if it's bulging inside the bubbletop, trace the power from the input inwards and check all the diodes and transistors you come across...

I had a Nanao in my Space Harrier that just shut off one day. Fuse (0.8a) was blown, replaced it and it blew again. The only thing I did was replace the flyback and then it worked fine. I did a full cap kit for good measure. The flyback was hard to find though. I got it from technotronic dimensions: http://www.technotronic-dimensions.com/Products2b.html. I dealt with a guy named Steve, he was very helpful and shipped it quick.

Ken Layton sent me a repair guide that he has since posted here:

Not sure if your monitor is listed though. Mine was the MC-2030.

Not sure if any of that is relevant, but I hope it helps.

It has been my experience that when Nanao's (19" standard res) start blowing the fuse, it is either a bad HOT or FLY or both. Personally I don't think they are worth repairing unless nothing else will fit into the cab.

At that price I think I agree. I have a WG4900 I can throw in there, but I doubt it will run on 100v. I suppose I could put another xformer in there and wire it directly to the switcher. Or I could try one of those universal chassis' from Alva, I have a good tube for that, but never tried one before.
