Has anyone ever purchased anything from Namcoarcade.com? I searched and there were a number of posts for price comparisons.... but not on the actual purchase. How does it work? Pay first, then schedule pickup? The game I want is a 4-5 hour drive, and there are 2 within 20 miles. I would prefer not to drive there to check out the games first to see which machine is in better condition.

Thanks

I bought from one in Va Beach. You pretty much have to go site unseen. Dont think you can get pics. I never had any luck going through there main #. I look for the sites that have there actually # listed. Thats how I got my Star Wars Trilogy.

I purchased a Galaga.. The Arcade that I picked it up at still had the TIMEOUT Sign on it... Those that don't know "Timeout" would have to go to Peter H site if it is still up and check it out...

Anyways.. You need a bank money order to pay for it.. Cash wont work and neither CC.. They took the tokens mechs out of mine which was cool..

I've bought from them a few times, if it is a game that is on a location and not at an arcade (those are the ones that all have the same phone # no matter what state they are in) it is almost impossible to actually obtain one of those games. The number gets you through to a corporate mail box and you probably will never hear back from them. If the game is at an arcade, it all depends on the manager of the arcade on how well the deal will work out. Same goes with the quality of the games. Some places take good care of their games and others don't. The PITA part apart the arcades is that they are subject to the rules set by the mall about taking the games in and out. Which the managers aren't usually to eager to accommodate.

Rule of thumb I go by- if you play it at a local Namco arcade anyway, enjoy it, and it says for sale on the site (it never does in person anymore), go for it, go right up to the employee on duty and say you saw it on the site for sale. Dial up a couple of friends, pull up a truck, and drag that sucker out of there.

Otherwise? Mixed bag. Can't say I suggest it, especially not for a drive. Maybe for the rarest and grailiest of grails but it's just too risky. The prices are all pretty flat rate, and although you get a better deal on older games, condition is NOT a factor in pricing. Back in the 90s I surfed for a Ms. Pac Man, flat rate around 780 bucks, and out of all of them only one had a monitor that was even barely visible, and it's sideart looked like it had been through a blender.

If you're in the area anyway, drop by, drop some tokens in, and give it a shot. But I would never drive out long distances after agreeing to a deal sight unseen, unless the game is worth their asking price in parts. I highly suggest driving out first, having friends and a truck on backup, and THEN play the game/talk to the employee as if you were a local. Never call up ahead of time and say "I want to buy game XYZ". I've seen everything from the peppermintiest of mint cabs for sale to cabs that feel like you're looking through a glass of milk to even see them with half of the buttons ripped off or without a functioning microswitch. Approach with caution.

Well... I finally got a response from my email two weeks ago. The games are not available for sale. Why they still have them on the web site..... I do not know. Thanks everyone for the information.

They USED to be a good source for equipment.

I would not deal with their hassle any more.
The only upside is their games are USUALLY in
pretty nice shape.

I've bought stuff from them before. You have to call the location and ask if its still available. They only update every few months or so online. Eleven years ago I got a Neo-Geo for $100 and two Virtua Fighters for $250 each. I also bought my MK2 from them for $500 (in like 1997) in spectauclar shape. Their prices are pretty good and that's why you need to call the location itself. First person with a cashiers check gets it.

I am looking for an F355 Challenge....and I have been looking for one locally for 2+ years without any luck. It is abour $1500 to ship the game... so I was hoping namcoarcade had one available that was only a few hour away. (also, I have been saving for a long while now). It now looks like my nearest machine is a 7 hour drive.

Please don't come down to MY neighborhood to pick the F355 up. You can buy the one in Atlanta. I have been working on getting one that is within my state... : )

And as was stated before, FORGET about buying a game that has the phone number with the extension on it. They are out on random locations, and they are NOT motivated to arrange for anyone to meet you. In fact, they won't even tell you where the games are. You have to arrange to meet them at another location just to see them. Which means they have to PULL the game from service and move it to a location just so that you can "see" the items. What a pain...
