Namco Triple DK/DK Jr/Mario Bros Price Check

since that one is a conversion kit..( New parts in old nintendocab) I wouldn't value as much as one of the dedicated ones...still cool game thats probably worth different amounts to each person looking at it.. especially will vary depending on what kind of monitor is in it..

$500 or so ????? in my opinion. if was dedicated around $1200 id say.

I'm pretty sure that cabinet is dedicated. You can see it uses 3/4" thick T-molding, not 5/8". I still have no idea what it is worth, but I would love to have one. Brand new Namco licensed arcade machines sell for ~$3000 new, so don't be surprised if the guy selling it won't budge on price.

That is a dedicated cab, I believe. I have one. It is a great game. Fun to play and just plain looks cool in the game room. I paid $1200 for mine earlier this year. It had just over 3K on the coin meter, and looks almost brand new. It was in an arcade near Tampa that bombed soon after opening. If you want it bad enough, jump on it. They don't show up that often.

How does it play? I've heard the joysticks are tighter than original Nintendo.

Can you put original Nintendo controls (joysticks and/or buttons) in the control panel?

It has been decades since I played a standard DK game, so the joystick on the 2005 model does not bother me one bit. I read somewhere that you can change it out for a standard joystick, although I am unsure of what work is entailed with doing so. I am good with it as is.

Will a standard Nintendo control panel fit in the cabinet? That might make things easier.

If its the 19" version maybe. But they did release this as a 25" too and it's a tad wider. When I built my DK mame scratch cab I measured one of these at DnB and when I got my panel and artwork it was all too small and I had to recut all my center wood to make it fit

Purists HATE the joysticks on this machine.

Yes, yes we do :D

Playing DKJR on one of these at D'n'B's was the single worst arcade experience of my life. I'm scarred. Nearly tipped the machine over laterally trying to get the unresponsive piece of crap to accept input.

IMO these are almost completely worthless, given the poor emulation and shoddy hardware. If you gave one to me, I'd eBay the PCB for a couple hondo and burn the rest.

Ballytablewiz, that's not how that joystick responds if it works correctly!

I am a Donkey Kong collector and have been playing DK since it was released in the early 80's. I currently own a dedicated DK and used to own the Namco DK that was the DK/DKjr/SMB cabinet with a 25" screen. While the dedicated unit gives you the true arcade experience of the '80's, the Namco was a very nice machine and played as true as my dedicated as far as gameplay. The joysticks are different, but certainly not objectionable by any means.. unless you only want to use the short/stubby original nintendo because that's all you're use to. The Namco units were firm and worked very well for playing the game IMO, they just felt different. I actually liked how positive they felt when I hit the elevator stages and needed split second moves. And sure SMB runs on a horizontal screen originally, but I don't know anyone buying this machine for SMB.. it's just gravy to DK and DKJR.

My dedicated DK has the original joystick and it feels/plays amazing. But I'd say about 50% of the dedicated DK's out there have bad joysticks, either from too much wear over time or they have been replaced with a crappy repro- which are not any better than the namco units IMO (I actually preferred the Namco units over some of the repro tries that have been done). So if you do decide only to get an original DK, a good orginal joystick should be something you look for or it may play worse than any "horrible namco joystick". Trust me on that.

What's the good thing about the Namco DK IMO? It has a continue option, so if you want to practice the elevator levels, or any other levels (or pipe level's in DKjr), this is the perfect machine to have! Sure some will say that the continue ruins the game, but if you only use it when you want to continue, who cares? It's on you to decide if you use it or not.

I personally think the 25" donkey kong Namco game is the bomb.. but I just love DK. that being said, I will always own the original since it's a nostalgia thing, the namco DK would always be in addition to that.

I can agree with everything you said. Plus, the continue option got me the high score at DnB ;) well actually it was a work event and they made me leave and I could only place 3rd....I was like 20K away... Lol I honestly call BS on a single credit play on the HS there. Not saying it not possible, because obviously it is, but it's hard to believe when there is a continue option. Just like my fake 3rd place ;) but it got me A LOT of practice on some levels that I have a hard time getting to on my dedicated.

I can measure it for you if you would like. It is the 25" size, so I too am not sure if it would be an exact fit.

I forgot to mention the continue feature. It is great if you are playing "recreationally." Being that I am in a strict training regimen to win the next Kong Off (yeah, right), I have only used it a handful of times. I am trying to get the scoreboard looking good without using the feature. I play Mario Bros just as much as DK and DK, Jr. All three are fun games.

It's always interesting to see what people will take in trade on Craigslist. Trading Rimz for a DK is pretty hilarious if you ask me. I guess it's not that much stranger than the time I traded a Black Knight pin for vintage synthesizer.

I hated the stick on the Namco. It was like a Ms Pac Man stick in a jar of peanut butter. I also thought the 25" CRT was too big. It just felt wrong.

That is not how the factory stick felt on mine, it was firm and positive on all moves. You must have played one with bad joystick. The 25" CRT is big and in your face, like a bigscreen TV.. I found it to be a cool novelty myself.

I've played plenty of original '81 DK's with horrible joysticks also.. and the reproductions don't have the factory feel and are more like the Namco units (OH NO!!!) :)
