below are some symptoms that shown when corresponding chip was pulled off. some are confirmed showing the same symptoms as the chip was broken. this is a note i compiled after swapping those smd customs for days. the game i tested on was Time Crisis. you won't get any information like this in the internet afaik. a bit warning though, if you're not good with soldering/desoldering QFP chips, then don't do it, or you'll ruin your own board.
i've always check the SRAM first before anything else. hope this little note useful for someone repairing them. if anyone have something to add, please reply here.

C300/C379 + SRAM - background/foreground graphic issues
2x C405 + SRAM - DSP very good, but keeps rebooting
C71 @15k - DSP prog trans false
C71 @10M - SUB DSP TBL trans false
C199 - DSP INIT FALSE
C342 - SUB DSP TBL trans false /DSP prog trans false (with 4 led on)
C353 - SUB DSP TBL trans false (no leds on)
2x C402 - DSP very good but keep rebooting (led 5 and 8 on)
or DSP INIT FALSE
C396 - DSP very good but keep rebooting
C403 - DSP INIT FALSE
