I recently bought a card reader for the system 256. I have the EXcard, the card reader and the S-CONV PCB. Problem is I don't have any of the connecting leads and the Namco manuals (from the Namco web site) aren't useful for a start from scratch set up.

I'm a dab hand at making connectors to just about anything, so wiring it up won't be a problem. I just need to know what connects to where on all the parts. If anyone can show me which leads go where I can pretty much work out a way for myself.

I think I have it nearly worked out, but I'd like to be sure. The first picture indicates the JVS connectors (power leads to mother board) should be replaced with the leads from the card reader. I'm assuming one end of the power supply lead connects to the power supply and the other part connects to the main board as normal. This allows a splitter somewhere in the lead which then feeds to the S-CONV PCBs. That would make sense but I want to be sure. There's also a 6 pin header on the EXcard and a very similar one on the Sytem 256 board close by, but the manual doesn't show these connected - it's possible they do nothing. I'd also really like to know how the connectors are numbered from 1 to 12 on the Excard.

I'd say I'm about 75% sure of how it might connect up but I'm not one to experiment on any hardware, so a picture of a complete set up would be absolutely great. Many thanks in advance.

You should be able to use a multimeter to test continuity between assumed ground pins. Then you'll know which order the pins go.

If your multimeter is the really cheap kind without continuity test you can use the ohms (resistance) setting to see if it's near 0.

Hi Loegan,

thanks for the photos. From the images you sent, I believe I have found the correct pin configuration. The pins are shown in the attached photos. You can clearly see the brown & yellow cables at pins 3 & 4. The blue is tucked under yellow and grey is tucked under blue. When I have some spare time I'll make the loom and hopefully I should get a positive result (provided the components are all working). I wouldn't want to guess what the player 2 connector colours are but it should follow the same pin numbering as the player 1 system. A huge thanks for taking the time to photograph the unit for me.

How did this work out for you? I'm setting up the same thing I just need to find some s-conv pcbs.
