Does anyone work on Namco System 1 boards? Looking to get my Galaga 88 running again (took -5 to ground). No idea what all is bad, no way to test the roms. All it does is display a "Please Wait" message upside down in red, then black screen. It will not go into test mode. I do not see any physical damage, so I'm assuming one or more chips are dead. I have no idea what ROM its executing code from to display the "Please Wait" message, but that's as far as it gets.

Look at this face...this dusty not working face. Someone have a heart...

I have 2 of these boardsets here... they are VERY odd ducks and little is published about error messages and problem solving. :(

If you only ground out the -5 supply, then I would first take a look at the schematic as see what uses -5.

You could also look for another Namco System 1 board from any one of the games it supports, use it as either a part tester source, or just swap out all the ROMs and custom chip.

Testing right now with a Pacmania cpu board (thanks to jrok for suggesting this earlier today...and Todd @ TNT for the fast shipping)

Progress.. G88 rom 5 is dead (location P10)

When running Galaga 88 cpu board with Pacmania rom board, ram 2 reports as bad. (location d6 or e6, tmm2064-p10 chips)

Going to track some down, replace them and see what happens.

This board doesn't use the -5, shouldn't be connected...but the crappy NamcoArcade wiring job let the ground line snap loose and hit the -5. I should have redone it when I got it... but it's done now so it doesn't claim another board.

What ended up being the problem? I've got a completely dead (boot garbage on the screen) one of these that I'm trying to get to work.
