hi, i have a problem with the board in my dedicated pacmania cab, the board is now "dead"

when i first got the machine it showed no sprites, only the test menu worked.. i could listen to the tunes and test everything on the board.. BUT!! then i was getting a RAM6 error (toshiba chips) and later the last error.. a EEPROM Error, and after that, no test menu, NOTHING :(

CPU (V6) is running hot, like it's trying to check the eeprom or something.

what could it be??

EEPROM is a 28C16 located in the lower pcb (or smaller) you can replace the chip (it is in socket) but it will probably go back to the previous RAM 6 problem, I ´d suggest send it to repair if this happens. Regards

you mean the SeeQ DQ2816A (U1)??? and is there someone in holland that can fix these boards??

EDIT: which eeprom is suitable to replace the old one?

The CPU should be warm, not hot. It may have developed an internal short. I am worried about how many components have failed, what's the +5v reading on the board?

That is good voltage. You will need to reburn the eeprom and replace the bad ram.

Really? ;-) that would be excellent, do I need a file for the EEPROM? Or is erasing it enough?
About the ram, replacing it is no problem... Getting them is a problem :-(, I googled for those toshiba ram IC's, but nope... Didn't find them.

If you get an EEPROM error then you need to replace it.

The number you took from the chip is 2816, and also will work with 28c16, there´s no other replacement number, letters could differ in front or behind the code, just take care that code. You don´t have to burn any program in the eeprom, just install and PCB will initialize for itself. About the RAM, please give the full code it has, hopefully could be a replacement available. If CPU would be running really hot, that should mean is burnt, and pcb should not starting at all. So I think if pcb starts, CPU should be ok

thanks for your help :) the RAM IC's ARE: 3x Toshiba TMM2064P-70/Japan 8706HDK
i'm gonna use IC holders, in case those RAM ic's goes bad again :p

EDIT: can i use a SeeQ DQ2816A-350 instead of the original SeeQ DQ2816A-250?? because i found a lot of them on ebay.

About the eeprom, yes the difference is speed but that won´t affect the working condition, you can use that. About the RAM, it is a 64K nmos static RAM, you can use any equivalent from several manufacturing, there are brands like Cypress, Hitachi, Mitsubishi, etc.. Should google " 2064 ram cross reference " and search... I only remember C7B185 as one of those, but please look for it on shops and web and advise. There might be lots of replacements. Good luck!

ah ok, thanks again :) i ordered the right RAM ic's and extra eeproms yesterday.. removed the RAM and EEPROM from the CPU board ;) it's just waiting for the parts now..

btw, i have some news! the cabinet works!! it was catching dust for 6 years, i rewired it again, a new fuse... CLICK... works!! tested it with different games, i'm so happy right now :D

I'm in Hilversum and have a stuck-in-watchdog Pacmania board here. We could try to get yours working with parts of mine and maybe find out whats wrong with my board.

Let me know if you're into that, I also have some 2064's lying around if you need more.
