Namco pole position cockpit

I almost picked this up myself as it was right here in Oregon City and cheap I think only 100 IIRC.

The add did have pics and I saved them just cause its something you dont see everyday
Im out of room and besides we didnt do the topper for the Namco version :D

I actually never saw the add a friend called me and told me about it and I guess I was the first on to contact them. Its a good thing that I didn't see the add because if I had I more than likely would have tried to find out information online about it and then I would not have been the first in line.

The Namco board displays ram 31 and a lady holding a flag
RAM 31 = location 8C on the video board (the one the monitor plugs into). If it were me, I would definitely try to get the Namco boardset going to keep it original. Don't know if that one is socketed, but if so, you could just swap one over from the Atari video board (4E). Cool machine.

If you don't mind I might bug you in the future for some pics of bolts (specifically the ones that attach the top and the bottom of the "halves" together)/assemblies/coin door/shifter and things so I can get mine up to snuff :drive:. The manual is unfortunately vague about those things. Should be a fun restoration project (the machine Alpha1 mentioned/pictured above)!

I have an English language version of the Namco manual in PDF format if you need it.

(Of course if you're ever inclined to sell I might be interested as well :wink2:)

+1. As I understand it it's pretty involved to change wiring over to the Atari type, plus IMO, it should be kept as original as possible :D

Atari PPII manual CO-218-12 is pretty handy (thanks andykmv!), has a listing of faults/IC functionality and the equivalent location on Namco PCBs

I will get this scanned and hopefully Phet will make a Namco one available with the great work he did for the Atari one!

Nice! Still trying to find a decent pic of the Japanese-language topper. The best pic I found is about 320x240 :( and blurry :001_sbiggrin:

Yeah man. I definitely +1 keeping it original if you can. Not to be pushy, but man...that thing is cool. I didn't think I would see one of those in the states. It's bad ass that it was just sitting in a barn somewhere and is still in good shape.

That is awesome! You should definately strive to keep it all original - I would even leave the coin mech as is with the yen labeling. What was Namco thinking with the color scheme on these? The green "base" isn't bad, but the red seat, dash, and tmolding really clash with the cool blues of the artwork and bezel. Just sayin'. I would still keep it original, though. ;)

That cab is really sweet but I'll stay with my American cockpit because that is what I remember playing back in the day. Plus now that I got a topper it is even better.

Good luck getting it all going and like I said I do like it and if I came across one I would buy it too. :)

I saw this cab when I was at tatom's house, and it is way cool. I'm not sure if everyone can tell from the pics, but what I really like is that since it comes apart in the middle of the seat area, they took the opportunity to taper the back half, and it really makes a difference.
