Ok, just got this big World Kicks game in. Plugged it in, and the Naomi screen comes up, but then a message appears under it, somethnig to the effect of "error 1, game not recognized by main board." What am I looking at here... bad cart or bad mobo?

Thanks for any help,
-mike

board connection. try unscrewing the cart, taking it out, and putting it back in. repeat as necessary.

Could also be a bad cart. They have these pesky surface mount buffer chips that blow if the voltage is too high.

What's the voltage set to? Anything above 5.2v will fry the buffer chips. They are VERY voltage sensitive.

are those replaceable? I have 2 Wild Riders carts that do the same thing (maybe you'll remember, you were the only one that would lend any advice on the subject) where they'll work fine sometimes, then in the ROM check lots of them will come up BAD and the game will lock up randomly. is that symptomatic of bad buffer chips?

it should also be worth noting, I get the same "game not recognized by main board" error with that game too.

Yes...

Bad buffer chips will do that. They are very small chips with hair thin legs... and there are a LOT of them that need to be replaced on the cart.

Tried that, no dice. Just looking to see if it is an issue with the cart or mobo?

The problem is... how much is the cart worth? Is it worth spending $45 to $50 on repairing? (Plus shipping)

For $50 or so for a repair, I'd take a shot with it. Do you or anyone do Naomi cart repairs?

Thanks!~

I have the chips here and have one under my belt so far.

I just have to locate the chips... ;) They are on a reel somewhere here.

only got 1 NAOMI 2 board. ;/

that's the part that sucks. I was wondering if the power supply itself could cause that. we have an 18 Wheeler that would randomly reset and lock up until I dropped the power supply from my Zombie Revenge in it. now it works excellent.

Absolutely!

Poor regulation, dropouts, or bad filtering can cause all kinds of issues.

Can't hurt to take the cartridge pcb out of it's case and plug it in directly. I have one cartridge case that just doesn't fit well and this works.
