Anyone play Namco Museum 64 on the N64 ? Looks like it uses the original game roms , even has the boot up screen .

There are some differences. The music at the end of challenging stage on Galaga was the music if you did it perfectly which he definitely did not.

I used to play it all the time(Namco Museum Vol. 2 for the Playstation is what got me into collecting... they made the cabs look AWESOME!)... sounds are WAY off, Dig Dug scrolls, I find it nostalgic but as a way of playing the games accurately it's not way up there. I'd highly suggest the Playstation versions, where you get a nifty virtual museum to explore full of cabs and with a bunch of rare NAMCO collectibles on display.

The cool thing about the N64 port is that every game that had a cocktail version has the original Japanese bezel on during gameplay. It's pixellated but still looks pretty slick.

So the playstation ports are good . Any other console arcade ports that are accurate to the original ?

The collection on the 360 is pretty good, good price too. About the closest emulation wise I've played. Namco Museum for the GameCube is also pretty good (haven't tried the anniversary one, I just mean the normal one)... made by the same folks that made the N64 version. Don't get me wrong, the N64 version was groundbreaking at the time, but not capable of the kind of accuracy some newer ones are. Avoid the GBA version like the plague. Sadly only the PS1 versions have the full museum, which is the only thing they have over MAME IMO... but you can tell I'm a Vol. 2 fanboy (or was it Vol. 3? The one with Druaga) so I'll keep from ranting. What I will say is the the PS1 versions are only good if you want some obscure stuff or to buy more... they have gems like Phozon, Druaga and Toy Pop but to get the "usual set" of games you'll see in America you have to get a few of them. To just play through the licensed American games I'd say GameCube.

I don't have a playstation or xbox , but I do have a gamecube . The 50th anniversary looks pretty good !

Picked up the Gamecube Namco 50th anniversary , Blaaaaaa it sucks pretty bad .

The Controls are pretty good but the grafix and sound suck . You'd think with a powerful modern game system they'd be able to run these old games perfect .

Whats wrong with the GBA version?

Controls are way off. Sounds are horrible. Screen too small and no playable option to make it larger (some sprites are horribly mangled). Pole Position is essentially unplayable. It is LITERALLY a port of the N64 version, right down to a horribly compressed version of the intro music. Save yourself some pain and get the N64 version instead.

I have no problems with mine. Controls are fine, sounds are fine. There is an option to make Ms. Pac-Man larger, but it is a "scrolling option" so you dont see the whole maze at once, but you see enough. I just wish there was a speedup option. I'm betting its the same on most all other ports. I have Namco Museum on PSX and still no speedup option. Anyone know if the later ports have this?

N64 port may be better, but its not "portable". I can play most of these games on MAME or on my plug and plays, and I have Ms. Pac-Man downstairs. But the GBA is a great way to go if you need your fix on the road.

I don't know. Perhaps I'm a perfectionist. :) Haha. If you really want portable that badly though I'd suggest the PSP or DS Namco Museums.

I still have my copy of Namco Museum vol 1 for Playstation. It has Pac-Man, Galaga, Pole Position, Rally-X, New Rally-X, Bosconian, and Toy Pop. I always liked how it gave you the option to change dip switch settings. The best part might have been the text on the back of the case that said "Skip college and become an arcade owner" or something to that effect. I should have listened. ;)

Also what is really great about the PS1 version of the Namoco Museum (all volumes) is that you can set the display for vertical orientation. I have a PS1 hooked up to a Commodore Monitor and I set it on its side. Ms Pac is perfect that way.

How good are the plug n plays ?

Some of the newer ones are fairly accurate aside from scrolling. The built in arcade joystick is a nice plus. They're good enough some guys have made miniature cabs from them.

Yes if you can get past the vertical games converted to horizontal. the Ms Pac/Galaga stick is pretty good, but still not the same as the real thing.
