Just an FYI:

Namco Classics boards have the leaking surface mount cap issues too.

I had a board with badly streaking video and replaced 3 4.7uf caps next to the LM1203 RGB Amp chip. They smelled like rotten fish when being desoldered from the board. Yuck.

Also check your NA-1 and NA-2 boards as they tend to have those leaking caps also.
All of my NA-1 boards are dead or have so sound.

Dead NA-1/NA-2 boards can be fixed by replacing the cap at C5... here is a pic of a fixed C5:

And here are some horror pics of the worst of my NA-1 boards... it really stinks acid:

Not only do I see the acid damage but whats up with all that hair. Looks like something was shedding on the board. Laughs..

Thanks for the share.

Keep up the great work and the great advice.

That is actually one of the best pictures I have seen of solder whiskers. Basically the metal starts to grow tiny crystalline structures and they grow like whiskers. It was never an issue with higher voltage circuits like those in the 50's or 60's because when they would arc over the voltage would cause them to evaporate. With digital circuits the voltage is low and so is the amperage and they will actually conduct signals between adjoining pins, which can be really messy.

Thanks for sharing the pics.

Yes... the smaller caps leak on those boards. They smell like stinky fish when you go to remove them with a soldering iron.
