I'm not really set up to work on it right now but I thought I'd throw the question out there, is there something that typically goes on Namco Classics 2 boards that kills the sound? I know there are sometimes issues with the surface mount caps and the video, but I haven't found anything posted specifically about sound problems yet.

Also what do these board typically go for? This supposed to be working board I just got this one off of Ebay for about $70 shipped and I'm wonder if I should raise heck and maybe send it back or at that price just tough it out and try to fix the sound myself? Seems to me they typically go for over $100.

It is a fair bet the sound problem would be caps as well,Have you tried testing the sound in the menu tests it could be disabled.

Those caps are NASTY for leaking. Use plenty of liquid rosin flux when removing them and have some ventilation going as they smell like a loaded diaper when desoldering.

If recapping the board doesn't fix it, replace the amp chip. They are notoriously weak - easy to damage.

But, I'd put money on the caps being the problem before the amp chip.

Ok I just seen this post. I have a Namco Classics 2 board and I am willing to bet theirs nothing wrong with the sound. I have mine in a Candy type cabinet which has a built in audio amp mounted inside the cabinet. It has a single wire plug for the audio input of the amp from the Jamma harness and it has another single wire plug also coming from the Jamma harness. Some games apparently have the Jamma sound out on different pins. When I put my Namco Classics 2 board in the cabinet I also had no sound. I had to switch the audio input by swapping the input plug. So find the pin out of the board and look at which wire from your Jamma connector is connected to the audio amp or speaker. I'll bet that's the problem. If I remember right I had to swap the audio input wire when I switched between my Namco Classics 2 and my 60 n 1 board. In the picture is my audio amp. Output is on the left, input is on the right side and the wires I swap are the brown and orange.
Check out the manual

It can be connected for mono or stereo sound but on the regular JAMMA harness pins 10 speaker + and pin L is speaker - and pin 11 is audio + and pin M is audio GND. You also have an extended edge connector with another speaker connection and you have to go into the game option screen to switch from mono/stereo setting.
