Can you experts tell me how the two Namco boards measure up compared to the original gameplay? Are those boards closer to original gameplay or closer to emulation (60-in-1 or MAME)?

If you are getting them to play the originals you are paying too much.
The reason to have these boards is for the enhanced "arrangement" versions.
I love Pac-man arrangement, but galaga arrangement isn't as good as the original or gaplus or galaga '88.
I've played the Namco Collection 2 , with Pacman and Dig Dug , and from what I could tell they are pretty close , maybe exactly the same as the original games . I think they are worth it just for the original games . You get a modern , reliable PCB , its Jamma , easier to put in almost any cab . And you get multiple games on one board that are quality , legit versions .
I have both boards and love them both. I also think that Galaga arrangements is amazing. Especially because you can play two players at the same time.

You can get the the Namco collection 2 for $200 . Namco collection 1 is pricey though and hard to find . But Galaga boards weren't built that well and always have problems , so having Galaga on a modern Jamma PCB thats reliable might make it worth it .

And the board sells for $250 plus, you would be better off with an original board with the adapter if all you want is the original game.
I am not saying they aren't good, it is just that they are SO expensive. You could pick up a Pac board with the multi pac kit and a galaga and an adapter for less.

I personally don't like them for the sounds. The original sounds are close, but quite off.
Super helpful. Thanks.
I gather, however, that there's a lot of board-switching required your way. Is there a system to hook up multiple boards and switch between them?
there are Jamma switchers(swap between multiple Jamma boards) but alot of people have had back luck with them. I can't say how it would work with a classic adapter tho...
My only gripe with the pcb I have is that everything is reversed. I had to cut the monitor yoke cables and reverse both pins for the X and Y axis IIRC. Point is, it wouldn't play in a standard Jamma Setup with a normal CGA monitor. Now, if you had one of the monitors with the switches that let you reverse the polarity or whatever its called, it would be fine. Pretty sure its either a japanese thing, or my board isn't working right. Doesn't even have a flip screen in the settings menu. At least not one I could find.
