Never had problems with my N64... Havent used it in like 3 weeks.. Then yesterday I turned it on to play a little MK Trilogy and nothing happen.. It was if like nothing went though.. The dvd input sign was still lit up on the CRT tv.. Usually it goes away and the game starts.. I had to turn it on and off like 5 times and then it finally worked. Whats going on? Is this common? What do you think is the issue? Thanks

Mine will do that from time to time but i'm 99% sure it is the crappy video cable replacement I had to buy.

Ive seen some N64 cables online that have the red white audio but have the S video. You think I should get it? Would that be better and fix the issue?

Could be a poor connection on the cartridge. Try cleaning it.

I forget exactly what a N64 does when a cart doesn't seat well, but the SNES turns on and does pretty much nothing.

Yeah it does nothing if the cart is dirty. Try cleaning it with rubbing alcohol and if that does not work, spray some contact cleaner in the cart port. That normally gets them working. I don't think we've ever had one in that cleaning didn't fix and we've gone through a lot.

It's probably poor cart connection. Ive had it happen from time to time. When the cart has a good connection, there's a slight "pop" on the screen before the game kicks on. If there's not one the cart has a poor connection probably due to the pins being dirty or the cart not being pressed down all the way.

I second that, the N64 will display a black or blank screen if the cart is dirty. Q-tip and rubbing alcohol should fix that right up. If you do decide to replace you video cable let me know I have a few extras.
