Just got back from a Myrtle beach Vacation. The weather took a turn for the worse on Tuesday, so I tried to brighten my experience for hunting for pinballs. Here is my report.

First sighting was a pin in a pizza place. The wife let me turn around to go check it out. It was a Simpsons Pinball party. I've played it before, so we decided not to stop in and check it out.

Next, I was making a run to the crocery store at about 10 one night. I passed a bar about 2 blocks from the hotel, and it had an "Arcade" sign on it. I figured that meant gambling machines. As I passed it, I glanced in the side window and saw the unmistakeable gleam of 3 DMD displays. One U-turn later, and the grocery trip got sidetracked. They had Monopoly, Twilight Zone, and Ripleys Believe it or not - all Pat Lawlor machines. Some guy was on the RBION, so I only got to play Monopoly and TZ. No biggie though, because I had played Ripleys before and wasn't a fan. This was the first time I have ever seen a Twilight Zone in person. I won't form an opinion, because this was FAR from a pristine example. There was far more open playfield than I expected though. All of the GI was out, so it was hard to see anything. The flippers were weak, and I sucked it up.
Monopoly was in a similar state of disrepair, and all the sounds were turned off. Once again, hard to base an opinion off of this.

One night, we went to a Shag club (the DANCE, perverts). It was a 21 and over club, so I sat with my daughter while my wife and father-in-law went in to check it out. They LOVE to shag. Me and my daughter walked around a bit, and happened upon a pizza place that had a gameroom in the back, and the unmistakeable form of a pinball poking out. It was about 5 minutes to close, but the guy working there was kind enough to turn back on all the gameroom lights so we could get 5 minutes in. The pin was an Elvis, and in remarkable shape for a route machine. Either noone ever plays it, or the owner is a pinhead, because it was magnificently maintained. This is the best part though:
As I pulled up a chair to let my daughter play, she climbed up to the machine, took a good look, then said "Nah, I have some of these at home..." It was totally awesome! She is 2 and a half by the way. Unfortunately, she doesn't have a crane machine at home and has fallen in love with them, much to the dismay of my wallet.

Last stop was supposed to be Fun Plaza Arcade. I have been waiting a year to go here and play some classic pitch n' bat!! Unfortunately, Fun Plaza was closed like many places during this time of year. Never fear though, because the Gay Dolphin Arcade next door was open. We played some pitch n' bat while our daughter rocked the roll down games. Surprisingly, my wife LOVED the pitch n' bat experience. These had digital scoring and digital sound, but the gameplay was pure EM goodness, with the awesome motorized men running around the diamond in the backbox.
In the back, they had a Rocky and Bullwinkle pin in decent condition. It also had 2 credits already coined up. Score! As usual, one of the flippers was nearly useless. It was a DE machine, so the multiball was still easy to acquire once or twice. Neat machine, but I never really liked the show as a kid.

So there you have it - my pinball excitement on vacation. If it weren't for the hurricane screwing things up, it would have been a beautiful week to be at the beach.

the gay dolphin has a arcade in it???

MOTHERF******* on our honeymoon it rained most of the time we were down there, if i would have know there were games there at the gay dolphon mabyt that would have madeup for the horruble 3 hour shopping experience my wife put me through in that store lol..

did ya make it to pier 14 to eat?

id love to go back someday, this time of year it snot too busy down there...

It wasn't in the hotel. It is a big arcade on the main boardwalk right next door to Fun Plaza. There are several shops down there owned by Gay Dolphin. Too bad we used all the tokens - I really wanted to bring back a token that said "Gay Dolphin" on it. :)
