Anybody from Myrtle Beach, SC? On vaca with the family and am shocked at how much it's changed! There used to be a shit ton of arcades and games nearby (especially down by the strip) but it looks pretty bleak. Anyone know of anyplace where I can find some classics around here? There used to be a kickass l'il arcade called Idlehour here when I was a kid with TONS of older games, but from googling it, it seems like it's not there anymore.
Figures, my dad did everything he could to keep my OUT of the arcades when I was young and now I'm just trying to find one to take my son INTO! :)

Any help would be killer - drinkin' a few for each of ya!

Haven't been there since '01. I think I played Mini Golf the whole time I was there. Atlantis, Peter Pan/Neverland, and the big Volcano one. I hit Alligator Adventure as well. I don't think I was really into finding arcades back in '01, as there were still plenty around that I took for granted. Good luck.

They tore down the old Pavilion a few years ago. I think that was where the majority of arcade games were left. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Myrtle_Beach_Pavilion

Everything has gon slick and high scale generic with the Hard Rock cafe and Planet Hollywood .. too many generic attractions. The old Myrtle Beach is long gone. As a native of SC I mourne its passing.

I know a guy who bought a warehouse of old pins and vids from down there..

Nice collection of old games and pins. He has restored a bunch of them

I did some research early this summer (but never went on the vacation), and there is apparently an EM museum type place down there. I'll have to try and find it again, because I was pretty excited about going there.

True that...this is nothing like I remember it being like in '89 - '91. Glad we're not staying down on the strip like we used to. Looks like Beirut.

Last year we stayed at the Wyndham Seawatch Plantation. It is exactly between North and South Myrtle. Just a few blocks down from the Walmart and the interchange. I can never stay on the strip again after staying there.

buddy of mine lives down there....i asked him about any arcades down that way and here's his response:

The Pavilion's closed, but most of the surrounding arcades are not, including the one in the general vicinity at the corner. Also, there's the on in Garden City at the corner of Atlantic Avenue and Ocean Blvd.

i haven't been to MB in years, so i don't know what types of arcades are still down there, but maybe you can check out the area where the pavilion used to be & that arcade he mentions at atlantic/ocean blvd.

We stayed at the Avista Resort in North Merytle Beach. Great place and there was an arcade 1 block away! That was 4 years ago now I think. :001_ssuprised:

Hampton Beach is still pretty old-school. Boy, I hope this doesn't happen there.
Seems every town these days gets a Walmart, Target,Home Depot, Lowes, Walgreens, CVS, Sleepys, Subway, 10 Dunkin' Donuts etc,,,
To cookie cutter for me.

We were down there the last year the Pavilion was open. The kids had a great time on the Mouse. They were just tall enough to ride it. I used to go to MB just about every other year growing up. My Aunt & Uncle have two condo's in Cherry Grove right on the beach. Half-way between the piers. Last time we were there, we stayed at RCI's South Beach Resort. It's right across from the Airport. I can drive from OH to SC with no map. I've been there so many times. It was a lot more fun before it became so big.

We were going to go this year, but I broke my ankle. Walking with crutches is bad enough. Walking thru sand would just suck... I just read somewhere they killed of bike week for next year. To much trouble and money to keep everybody in line. I'll have to dig up this tread up next year when we go.

One more thing... The sad thing is they tore the Pavilion down just as the economy was going down. Had they waited a year or two it probably still be open.

Im visiting right now and the "arcades" you guys speak of near the old pavillion across from ripleys is redemption game central. I walked through and did see 3 galaga/ms pac reunion cabs and 2 retrocade, one a pacman and one a galaga but still shitty IMO.

Still would like to find an awesome arcade. There were some decent machines i had never seen before in the ripleys exit area however.

Myrtle is not the same, so many small shops have closed down near the pavillion area. :(
