My weekend Wedding Reception WITH GAMES!

Wow, that's a big get together. You have way more chairs than I do friends! of course you almost more table tops than I do friends. ;)

That is a 30x60 tent, it was HUGE!
I wanted to use lump charcoal, but since I used the cooker as a warmer too, I blew through 8 big bags! That crap charcoal was 2- 20lb bags for $16 at HomeDepot. Lump Charcoal was like $15 a BAG. So I soaked a bunch of apple wood chips, and used those to smoke it. And basted the pig every 2 hours with a brine solution, applejuice with brown sugar, Pineapple juice, and Apple cider viniger. Let me tell you it WAS AWESOME!!
The games were in the shade, but they were a bit hard to see till the sun went down a bit. The party started at 5:00, by 6:00 or so, the games were good to go.
Convince your wife! The best thing we did was put those games out there, it kept the kids occupied ALL NIGHT!!

Not to stray too far off topic, because this thread is about your awesome get together; lump charcoal will burn both hotter and longer, so you'll use less. The cheap stuff cost a lot more, especially when you're doing something that's a really long cook.

Fun fact: charcoal was invented by Ford's partner, Kingsford as a way to market the spoke scraps from the wooden wheels on the Model A's and T's.

Unfortunately Kingsford is made with sawdust, clay and fillers so while you can grill a good burger quickly over it, smoking something for hours and hours is going to take bags and bags of the stuff, leaving you with a significant pile of ash to clean up.

Next time I will use lump charcoal for sure, I was really close to using it this time, but my buddy who does a pig roast every year talked me out of it......
My cousin is a rep for the "Big Green Egg" and could have gotten it at cost. NEXT TIME!
I saw a whole hour long show on the history channel about charcoal, shows what kind of nerd I am to sit and watch a show about CHARCOAL!! I remember them saying the things you stated about it........
