My Wife and I got married back in March on a cruise. We decided to have a reception this summer to celebrate our recent wedding with all our friends and family that would not make it on the cruise.
We wanted it to be in our backyard, so se rented a giant tent, tables and chairs, BBQed an entire pig ourselves with all the fixings, and did all the decorations.
With a lot of help from close friends and family, and 3 months of planning it was a GREAT SUCCESS! We had nearly 100 people in our backyard!
At any rate, I decided to set up a tri-fecta of Galaxian Cocktails on free play to occupy the kids during the evening! There was a steady stream of kids playing them ALL NIGHT!
Here are some pics from the evening....
ENJOY!

No pictures of the pig?

Congrats on successfully pulling off the reception.

Wow, that's your back yard?! Damn that's nice! Looks like a park. Very cool, I'm sure those kids will remember that reception for a long, long time.

Out of curiosity... Why do you have THREE Galaxian cocktails? Hard to tell from the photos, but are they restored?

Lee

LOL, thanks guys.....
Yep they are all 3 restored. They are darn fine looking machines! Two were mine, one belongs to my brother. I convinced him to bring it up so we could pose 3 of them for pictures. I thought it would make a cool pic. Then I decided to run an experiment. The middle machine I put Souzilla's high score kit on, with "rapid fire" turned on. I didn't tell the kids anything about them. I wanted to see which game got the most plays. HANDS DOWN it was the one with the rapid fire..... There was a kid playing it almost 90% of the times I looked. I heard one of the kids say something like "you can shoot faster on that one" LOL....Funny experiment....
I predicted that one would get the most love, and I was right.....

You stole my idea! I wanted at least a Pac-Man upright and a few others at our upcoming wedding but the venue will not allow. But we're still going to have our annual party at the house a month before the wedding.

cool to see the games getting so much love, even if all three are galaxian. at my pre wedding cookout, pacman and mario bros probably got the most love hands down. i think they tend to be the most recognizable video game characters.

Some of my fondest arcade related memories of my youth happened at random family weddings. There was always an arcade machine or two on freeplay and me and my cousins would spend the entire reception playing them.

Yeah I was hoping to have a few more games to add to the mix. We did EVERYTHING except set up the tent all on our own.....that took a team of 4 guys who knew what they were doing an hour and a half, we spend the next 48 hours doing the rest.....
Just didn't have the time to bring the games from the game room out. My brother was nice enough to grab his machine to make it 3. It was a cool social experiment to see if kids preferred rapid fire or not......they did, the one in the middle was always occupied by the other kids, and there was almost always someone on it......

Nice! I tried to convice the wife to let me bring some games to our wedding, but no dice. I'm sure you guys had a killer party.

Wow..

We're almost doing the exact same thing the end of July

Backyard wedding with the 40x60 tent (yours looks a bit bigger)

I have a separate 10x20 tent for the 'lounge' I'll have a FGY..AFM..Robotron and skee ball machine there

Wish I had a cocktail...that would be perfect!

Edit: How'd the game look outside? .I'm kinda worried about being able to see them

Our wedding starts at 5:30 and will probably be about 7 when the game room opens. I'm kinda concerned that it will still be to bright

Congrats! The wife and I were married in St. Thomas, and did the same thing when we got back. (I didn't have any games yet tho)

Well done! That is a perfect formula for success: huge reception of family & friends + BBQ + classic games!

Since you represented Midway so well, I'll forgive you for using the wrong kind of charcoal :)
(next time go with lump!)

My Wife and I got married in her hometown, in a small church next to a cornfield, since it was so far away, we had a second reception a month later for the "city folk". It was minus the BBQ, video games, and huge tent, but still great.

How long ago was that? 1985! Ms Pacman had only been in arcades for 4 years when we met.

Funny, I'll also have something similar going on in September. The place we're getting married at is on the boardwalk in Delaware overlooking the ocean. The top floor is the restaurant for the reception. The downstairs is a full blown arcade.
Probably not full of classics but something fun to do for me and the boys. Both places owned by guys we work for.
