My Weekend trip score- Mint Mortal Kombat 2! 1 of my Grails..

After searching high and low, I finally got my MINT MK2 dedicated cabinet!! And by luck!

This was about 2 weeks in the making, originally the guy that had this machine was selling a galaga in horrible looking Dig dug cabinet, so when I saw the listing I happen to see what appeared to be a MK2 machine sitting next to the Galaga. I emailed asking him about the MK machine and if he was interested in selling, and he was excited to sell it.. because he loved his galaga machine and really wanted to keep it, and this way he could do that. To him, he didn't think he could get nearly as much for the MK cab.. :)

This is the only pic I had to go on :

The one big problem.. the machine was down in Miami, and I'm in central florida, but I knew I had to get this one... the price was right, but I was taking a gamble... it's been sitting in storage for 3 years, and his storage as so full that he could not pull it out to see the actual cabinet or if it still worked.. so I would have to take the gamble.. but again, I wanted an original MK2 cab, and this was what I wanted anyways... worse case scenario, I'm in for a restoration project, and this is one machine I would be ok doing it with..

After convincing a good friend of mine who has a nice pickup truck, as well as being the person I always played this game against in college to make the road trip down to resuce this gem, we were off...

Got there, and the storage was stuffed.. we had to pull a bunch of stuff out of the unit to access the machine and pull it out, and once we did that I was very excited.. a MINT MK2!! To me this is one of my dream machines, so I was very excited.. we pulled it out of the unit and noticed something of concern.. there is some screen burn-in and guess what screen is burnt in? THe boot up test screen with the roms displayed... wow, never seen that one! SOOO, the big question.. we plugged her in and she fired up, tested 100% fine, and the screen is bright and crisp! Revision 3.1 also.. awesome. What a great trip after all!! And the price was very much right and worth the long trip... even my friend was envious!

Here are the pics, after 2 weeks of trying to get this deal to work and having a friend take a day to help me out, I'm very happy its home...

Price? well, it was good enough for me to drive down 5 hrs and take a risk! I'll just say that..

Here's some pics..

Great to see another Central Florida person!

Thats a beauty. I love my UMK3 Though ;)

It was a great trip, truly a roadtrip to be remembered.. and the nice thing about it is the game brings me back to my younger years, and once I got it back to the house I had my old college buddy that I used to play in the arcade on a regular basis.. so it was absolutely great! I've been playing MK2 on the PS3 version, and I must say there is absolutely no substitute for playing it on an original MK cab/controls. This is a keeper for my collection for sure.

This thing was in such good shape that we wrapped it like it was the holy grail, LOL, wrapped it in 3 blankets, then wrapped it in a large tarp to help deflect the wind and rain.. We must have spent about a half an hour wrapping it up and making sure it was secure/well protected for the journey. Ended up there was no rain, but if we hadn't of wrapped it in the tarp, it would have rained.

We nicknamed my friends truck the "ATD", the arcade transportation device, and I must say it made the ride very enjoyable on top of everything else...

Here's some pics :

Always great to pick up one of your favorite games, and in such nice shape!! I was very happy when I finally picked up my dedicated MK1, and it even needed work.

So how much?? :)

Wow, that cab looks great. Nice score. I'm in the process of fixing up a dedicated MK. Much better to find one already complete and in such great shape.

Good find man, that was one of my must owns as well. It took awhile to find one that is not faded from sun. Just keep it away from windows as all the red dye used in Midway cabs fades really quick if left in the sun even for a short amount of time.

Mines converted to UMK3, but I still have ablility to change it back to MK2. Yours looks to be a little bit nicer than mine! Good haul.

Awesomez! Im gettin mine this week, im getting mine setup for mk2/ and umk3 with run button sweetness!

I love that MKII cabinet. I could use one next to my KI. It looks like a big old La-Z-Boy chair all wrapped up in the bed of that truck.

Would love to see the pics when you get them together!!

Nice one man. The long drive and trip to get it is all part of the hobby. It's fun no? lol

and come on! tell us how much!

It was about a 10 hour round trip.. but actually, it was fun, and for me the payout was huge. But I don't want to do it on a regular basis! Unless of course if its a Mint Tron, Dragons Lair, etc., LOL

It is very hard to find one mint, there's always a problem with them.. the red faded, the bottom f-d, scratched up, etc. I had a mint one a few yrs ago and got rid of it and totally regret it. Wait, is that mine? haha jk, I sold mine to a kid in TN.

Hands down, that is the coolest fighting game cabinet ever. Congrats!

Ditto. Congrats. I had one that had the red faded. Sold it and kept my mint MK3. Had the MK2 been mint, I would have had a tough decision on which to keep. And even though there is a lock bar type thing on yours, it is a nice professional one, not a stray steal bar streched diagonally across a nice front. Hehe.

Would love to see the pics when you get them together!!

soon! mk2 is in the basement now but still plastic wrapped and control panel off, and not right next to killer instinct yet heh, and im wore out! other wise id do it now.
