My Weekend trip score- Mint Mortal Kombat 2! 1 of my Grails..
After searching high and low, I finally got my MINT MK2 dedicated cabinet!! And by luck!
This was about 2 weeks in the making, originally the guy that had this machine was selling a galaga in horrible looking Dig dug cabinet, so when I saw the listing I happen to see what appeared to be a MK2 machine sitting next to the Galaga. I emailed asking him about the MK machine and if he was interested in selling, and he was excited to sell it.. because he loved his galaga machine and really wanted to keep it, and this way he could do that. To him, he didn't think he could get nearly as much for the MK cab..
This is the only pic I had to go on :
The one big problem.. the machine was down in Miami, and I'm in central florida, but I knew I had to get this one... the price was right, but I was taking a gamble... it's been sitting in storage for 3 years, and his storage as so full that he could not pull it out to see the actual cabinet or if it still worked.. so I would have to take the gamble.. but again, I wanted an original MK2 cab, and this was what I wanted anyways... worse case scenario, I'm in for a restoration project, and this is one machine I would be ok doing it with..
After convincing a good friend of mine who has a nice pickup truck, as well as being the person I always played this game against in college to make the road trip down to resuce this gem, we were off...
Got there, and the storage was stuffed.. we had to pull a bunch of stuff out of the unit to access the machine and pull it out, and once we did that I was very excited.. a MINT MK2!! To me this is one of my dream machines, so I was very excited.. we pulled it out of the unit and noticed something of concern.. there is some screen burn-in and guess what screen is burnt in? THe boot up test screen with the roms displayed... wow, never seen that one! SOOO, the big question.. we plugged her in and she fired up, tested 100% fine, and the screen is bright and crisp! Revision 3.1 also.. awesome. What a great trip after all!! And the price was very much right and worth the long trip... even my friend was envious!
Here are the pics, after 2 weeks of trying to get this deal to work and having a friend take a day to help me out, I'm very happy its home...
Price? well, it was good enough for me to drive down 5 hrs and take a risk! I'll just say that..
