I ordered and installed a Ultimac Mag-Stik this week for my Arcade-SD cabinet and I really like it.

Easy to change to 4-way and back to 8-Way by just pulling up on the stick and rotating.

I had put a 8 way stick and I did not like playing 4 way games. This has so far proven to be a great solution. A little spendy at $50 with the shipping but I got it in 3 days from the UK! The quality is very good.

I've used these in multi builds before. I always felt like the throw of the stuck was a bit short. And the springs a bit stiff. What did you think?

Did you get a ball-top or bat-top?

I have the bat-top. It is stiff but I like the responsive-ness so far. I will play a little scramble today and see how it feels. For DK and Pac games it was a huge improvement.

I find it's good for a multicade. But it's a little touchy for my liking. Not a lot of movement in it. Find it hard in games like Scramble.

I played a few games of scramble and actually found it very responsive. Yes the throw is short but the quickness of the stick I found excellent. New high score for me.

Had one on my MAME setup and replaced it with a Wico leaf stick after about 6 months due to the short throw, not good at all in 1/2" wood panel even with some counter sinking underneath. And it would not always reliably switch from 4 to 8 way (for me). Finally, it was stiff enough that for long gaming sessions it got painful. But I still am impressed with the design and idea.

i have one, it was a piece of shit and broke almost right away, i replaced it with a wico leaf stick.

Yeah, the throw is short but it's a compromise for having both 4/8-way without jumping through hoops. Big fan of 1942 and Ms Pac is unplayable with 8-way, imho. Thumbs up here.

I had a tough time playing Donkey Kong with it. The stiffness and short throw made it feel un-natural. I really must have the sloppy, loose feel you get with an original DK stick. My hand got tired really quickly with the Mag Stick on a DK session of more than 10 minutes or so.

The cab I did with a Mag-Stick - was a custom build for bongoben:

I have one on my Pac 60:1. I don't play it much, so it doesn't matter a lot to me. I got it for the ease of switching, but find that I never do it (and never seem to do it correctly anyway). Right now, my son is the one that plays that machine the most and he's not very good, so he doesn't notice it at all ;)
