well as per my other problem with my Polo going out, I picked up a WG U5000 from gatordad on the cheap, which he says was pulled from an NFL Blitz. UMK3 looks pretty nice after I recapped it and adjusted the focus some.

I have a slew of little quirky issues. they're not so much a bother as it is I'm concerned about doing permanent damage.

1.) occasionally the entire screen will flicker in an upward motion and then return back to normal.

2.) stuck pixels in CRT? never heard of this. got a couple pixels that are stuck on, don't recall seeing them prior to recapping.

3.) top inch of the CRT is noticeably brighter than the rest. (recapping didn't change this -- heard of bad/wrong caps making left to right go from bright to dark, but never this)

4.) trying to diagnose #1, I tried wiggling the remote adjustment board around and magically that makes the monitor go out of sync -- so I tacked it in place so it won't move. (possible bad Horizontal Hold pot? could this be the cause of #1? )

5.) colors still look a little weak -- recapping didn't fix it, so I guess I'm gonna have to tinker with the RGB pots. (any helpful tips on how to do this?)

(in all fairness, the red looks a little dark. gatordad had to replace the red transistor on it, is there a possibility that the red needs readjustment? the whites look pure though, that's the confusing part)

*6.) middle portion of the screen, it looked like the pixels were jittering. either recapping fixed this, or reseating the neckboard corrected it.

what I've done so far:

-recapped (my 2nd cap job -- it still works, so I guess I did it right :))
-reflowed a lot of different solder joints. (gatordad said that occasionally when he ran this monitor that all the color would go out and it would be black & white, a tap on the frame would fix it -- this hasn't happened to me though, only item #1 has)
-tried wiggling the video header wiring and any other wires -- wasn't able to reproduce that flicker. could it be a ground issue?
-I thought the loud sound was causing the monitor flicker, but it did this in silence when I wasn't playing it too.

despite all this, this was a damn good $150 purchase!

help me monitor gurus, you're my only hope. TIA

never thought of a rejuve. :D

I've always been lucky with my purchases that the monitors didn't have a whole lot of mileage on them. my KI1 one in particular, though that one could use a cap job. original stuff.

Peale, I have this weird resistor mod on the side, it screws to the frame. something that might've got nuked previously. it's like a 2 pin header, it's only got 1 wire going to it now. I'll have to see if I can get a picture of it. there's a couple big diodes underneath that got tape under them too, I didn't mess with those.

I'll see what I can come up with. got a few parties today, maybe if the place clears out we can pull the monitor.
