First off, Yeah, I know it isn't an arcade machine, but I plan to use them to repair a few arcade machines.

Now, on to the good part. So, a couple months back, a house about a block from mine put up a for sale sign, and had an open house. My girlfriend wanted to see what the other houses in the neighborhood looked like, so we went and checked it out. While we were being walked around by the realtor, they mentioned that the owner was planning to sell the old tools in the garage. So, being the proprietary type, I checked it out. So, what do I see? An old drill press, bench grinder, and metal lathe. Aside from the lathe, I am in the market for both other items, and don't really trust many of the newer models that use cheap parts/are made in third world countries. The realtors then told me that the owners wanted to sell, but didn't tell me for how much, and the owner wasn't going to be around for awhile. So, fast forward to yesterday. I see a u-haul truck outside the house, and people moving stuff out. I then remember about the tools, and flag someone down to ask. They went and got the owner, and then he showed me the tools again (they were all still there!). He told me that I could just take the bench grinder (craftsman 3/4hp belt driven grinder with dual/quad operation probably made in the 50's). He then told me to come back later if I was interested in the drill press since he was going to try to fit it in the u-haul if he could. So, I went back a few hours later, and he asked me to give him an offer on it, I told him a hundred bucks, and he agreed. It is an old Delta/Milwaukee floor standing 14" variable speed drill press made in 1944 (according to the serial number) with a 1/4HP motor. Afterwards, I went back, and he offered me an old vice on the workbench for $20. I readily agreed, and found out it is a great+ condition rock island model 574 vice (which is a very good vice). So, All in all, I bought 4-way a bench grinder with pedestal, floor standing drill press, and a 4-1/2" bench vice for $120. All of them work, but I am going to replace all the belts, and re-grease all of the bearings. The grinder and drill were SUPER-dirty when I brought them home, and in the pics, they are cleaned up for the most part.

Dave...Dave...Dave...great score man, I think heheh. Now send those over to Haynes Maintenance where they belong ;)

Tom

They've got their own tools. Now, i won't have to use haynes-land tools :)

It also took almost a full can of kroil to clean these up ;)

Very nice score ;)

I so could use a drill press....

Try to get an old one... They're made MUCH better than current models, and are fairly simple. I took mine apart completely, and cleaned it bolt by bolt. It's really not all that complicated, but I don't think I'd want to take apart a new one with a ton of bells and whistles on it. I'd be afraid that I'd snap bolts even when it was still new.

You scored what I've been wanting to score for a long time. I would've taken the lathe, too. Congrats on the great find!

I was tempted to, but I thought about it, and I already have some access to a bigger lathe at work, so it would just end up being neglected at my house. He said he'd put it up on ebay, so if anyone sees an old lathe in long beach on ebay, and wants me to hold onto it for them, I'll do that.

Looks like mine is a 1953 according to the list.
The emblem on the front actually says Delta Milwaulkee. Here are a couple pics.
You can see my Sheldon lathe to the right on the first picture....another oldie.

What hp is the motor on your press? Mine is 1/4hp, but that seems a little low to me... I may swap out eventually for a 1/2 or 3/4 HP motor.

I have no doubt that it will I just really wanted something to mess around with for a little money. Old floor tools are always the way to go they where made to never wear out. Actually If anyone comes across a circular press let me know. It would have 4 die pices that would fit around the sides and different sized tubeing could be placed in the press and squeezed from 360 degrees. We had one at a fountain company I use to work at and I haven't ever seen one outside of that place it was an old piece of equipment.

Those old drill presses are a thing of beauty, nice score!
