I picked up a Tron last week and decided to do my first restoration ever. It was complete & working with the exception of some incorrect fuses that needed to be replaced. The cabinet was solid w/ no water damage but it had a ton of graffiti on it. Thanks to Jeffc for his resto tips and advice. Also thanks to Descrentl for recommending CitriStrip to remove the sideart(amazing stuff).
As you'll see from the pics this cab was on a route and had a lot of signatures on it. Surprisingly the marquee, shroud, and CPO were in decent condition. I will be replacing the sidart, inner art, upper & lower plastics from Phoenixarcade.com, a new joystick from groovygamegear.com, t-molding from t-molding.com, & find matching coinslots.
So far: Three coats primer sanded w/ 100,150 & 220 grit. Two coats of oil-based Rust-Oleum Satin black paint. I've never painted something like this before but I think the texture & color came out pretty good. Because it was an oil based paint I waited a few days before I applied the 2nd & final coat.
Check out my progress so far & I'll post more pics when it's completed...
