I'll have to copy in some pics, but this has been an interesting project to date. I originally picked up a Tempest cab (early January 2010) that had been converted to Shinobi, and the Shinobi game board and CP were there. It powered up, but the screen is just a mess, no sound for the game, nothing. Orig thread post:

I did the citristrip thing to find that there was nothing under the black paint but particle board. So, either someone wasted alot of their life peeling/stripping away the Tempest sideart, or simply took it all away with a DA sander.

The cab had a Shinobi marquee, but the speaker and light from Tempest were still in tact. There were no other remnants of the Tempest present.

2 months ago, I purchased a complete Tempest wire harness from kmitche34.

2 weeks ago, Bungy invited me up to his place for some gaming and to "pass on" to me some Tempest parts. He provided a piece of smoked plexi, and the upper speaker "drawer" with many OEM Tempest parts in tact. He also provided the metal spacer that goes in between the marquee and the smoked glass.

Last weekend, I acquired another Tempest cab that was provided FREE by sohchx (and transported via Gader77- many thanks to both KLOVERs!). The side art isn't perfect but it's 1000% better than the "no sideart" version I had prior. This cab also included the complete upper drawer, as well as the grille for the speaker. It even included a coin box that I believe is actually for a pinball machine, so that went into my Williams Sorcerer pin (it had no coin box at all). Orig thread w/pics:

I spent some time on Sunday consolidating all of the parts from both cabs to make a "best of both worlds" version. Just thought everyone would like to hear how this is coming along. I will post pics when I can.

Remaining parts list needed (more as a checklist for me than anything):

1. populated control panel
2. PCB, ARII board, vector generating board
3. monitor

You will probaby find that buying a working game is cheaper than all the parts.. That's what I finally did

Many have said that. But I am actually one of those folks who actually enjoys watching it all come back together, believe it or not. I am also on a limited budget and these don't pop up that often in my area.

Thanks DJ- SuperBee4406 had mentioned he had a populated CP, I've reached out to see if he still has it.

Well I was going to post a pic of the CP that I got from DJ DNS, but I now have another one on the way that's fully populated so, I guess I'll wait until it arrives since that will now be my keeper!

I have also acquired a PCB, ARII board, and transformer brick.. Paging bungy, I may still need to take you up on that testing offer!!

Now if I can just score a monitor without having to sell off 6 of my other games to pay for it, I'll be golden! :D

wow, how much has this project cost you now?

There's this beautiful Tempest 50 miles from me for $500 but I wish I had the room.

I've been really fortunate and gotten alot of help from friends here. Right now I'm only around $145, and have everything but the monitor.

Is it possible to just 'throw in a generic monitor' until you score a 6100? I have no idea, that's why I'm asking. Are the vector monitors night-and-day different than raster/VGAs?

I've been asking the same question Jawhn, but apparently there's no type of adapter to wire up a regular PC monitor until I can get "the real thing". Sucks I know..

The only sub I'm aware of is getting an Amplifone monitor instead of the WG6100. But in case you're not already aware, they are both about the same in availability these days. :(

The easiest source for a WG6100 is..... Space Duel. I know that you will hear that they are getting rare but I have owned 6 Space Duels in the last two years and passed on some others that came up and I didn't have room for. I don't think ANY of the Space Duels I have owned cost me more that $200 (non working of course)...

If you were close to St.Louis, I could easily come up with a 6100 for you but I will never ship a monitor again.....

Thanks Mongo- you were a huge help with my TRON resto so, I can't ask you for 2 favors in the same lifetime anyway :D

Hopefully something will turn up. In the meantime, I definitely have plenty of other projects to keep me busy. Then again, I'm anxious to play some Tempest, without having to drive to Cherry Hill every time I want to play (bungy's place).

Is there anyone else in St. Louis, just for the sake of asking, who would ship one of these monitors if Mongo happened to stumble across one?

There's no adaptor, but you could use a PC monitor by running it in MAME ;-)

Vector is completely different than a raster RGB output from a typical monitor. A substitute would more likely be an oscilloscope.

WG6100s aren't plentiful, but they are compared to Amplifone monitors..
