bomus lights, rollover lanes, pop bumpers, spinner bonus lights (yes theyre purple in this picture...)

Also have one orange and one white in the arrow that points to the ramp. Kinda looks like the fire and smoke coming out of a rocket engine.

*edit* Stupid photobucket mobile is not letting me upload it and dropbox link not working right! >=|

Why did you get a new playfield, there are still a few flecks of paint left on that one! hah

I half considered leaving it in there until its pretty much completely gone....but its not as fun to play, the ball actually snags on parts of the playfield because the wood is so worn down.

Okay, so... 10-29 I got the playfield. There were some issues....grey paint in inerts, grey paint dribbled through the holes to the front side and then clearcoated over, inserts that looked crackled when light shining through them, areas damaged under the clearcoat, splotchy color layers on the blue part of the playfield. I was not happy with the issues, overall. I contacted CPR about it. They did say that it seemed that my PF had enough issues to where it should've been held back for later in the run, even though they didn't feel like it was necessarily a "second" since most of the areas in question would be covered up by things on the playfield. I expressed that I didn't really feel like I should be paying that kind of money when seconds were already up on their site with far less issues than what I had.

I had figured they would try to offer me a bit of money back, but they did offer to send me a second playfield, no cross-shipping required, and let me compare it to the one I had and send them back whichever one that I feel was inferior. I was impressed, as I feel that's not something they HAD to offer, and they did not ask me to pay for any part of the shipping. Kevin Wayte seems to be a pretty standup guy, very impressed.

All told, when they got back the last of their playfields, he could not find one for me that was in any better condition overall than what I already had. Most of them had either marks in the text somewhere, or the same splotchy "extra stars in the blue" issue that mine, and some of the other seconds have. Something with that transparent ink didn't work very well, I guess. So basically, at that point, I had been waiting for a month or so to find out if this last batch of playfields would solve my problem and this bomb drops. I get further down in his email......they offered to pull one of the ones they hold back for their team, shoot a final clearcoat layer on it, and send it to me. Impressed x2. That's WAY more than I expected in this situation, and I actually feel a little bad about it. Hopefully everyone on their team that wants one gets one, because they do deserve it, especially after all this...

Fastforward two weeks. It arrived yesterday. You can still smell the new clearcoat curing on it. It looks a MILLION times better. Only 2 of the inserts are crackled, and only 1 of the two is noticable, but it's the USA inserts at the top of the playfield that nobody will ever see closely enough for it to matter. Some very very very small areas of the splotching, which honestly, I see as completely unavoidable with this playfield after seeing these two...you'll never get a perfect one...but this one is markedly better. No paint in the inserts, in fact, the grey on the back is so light there's some small areas where the back wasn't even completely covered. You can see the wood. I'm fine with that. I can only see two little mis-registration errors, and neither one bothers me.

I'm extremely happy with how CPR has resolved this so far...I'm just waiting for instructions on how to send the other one back to them.

What I've learned about repro playfields:

They're not immaculate copies. They ARE subject to the exact same issues that the originals were, and there will be variation in registration and paint no matter how careful the printers are. Some things are completely beyond their control, like the insert crackling, and minor areas of it are acceptable. I am very anal, and I'm going to loosen my expectations up a bit if I can get ahold of a Pinbot playfield from them. :)

I know the CPR guys probably don't post or read over here, but I'm thorougly impressed with the lengths they've gone to, both to get this thing out in the first place, then to go through all this hassle with a first time customer who most likely would've been okay with some money back. It's rare to find companies that will go that extra bit to prove they're behind what they sell, and I really do appreciate that.

You'd thing the guy sending you replacement playfields would be standing at the end of the production line making sure they are good enough to be sold.

Sheesh

My understanding is that even if every single PF came out with errors, they still have to be sold because the wood especially is expensive. Once you have ink down on it, there is no going back. You can't just simply clean up or retouch printing errors/misalignment/damage while everything is drying. How exactly would he correct it after it comes off the ink press? It's not like you can just take a damp rag, wipe it down, and re-press it.

Things like the grey backing paint going down the back of the inserts and through holes in the playfield? Yes, that was easily preventable, but I could see how at the end of a long day, it might happen. To be clear, I didn't post this because I'm mad with CPR. I posted this because I'm genuinely impressed with the length they've gone to to make sure that I got what I wanted, and expected. Also kind of like to share the fact that expecting absolute perfection from these guys, even at these prices, isn't realistic. It's just not going to happen.

Still in process of breaking down the game... 425 pictures so far. 1.33 GB.

Bonus martrix light sockets, ball trough, a few other lights, and the right slingshot mech were all cut loose this afternoon and freed from their wiring shackles..

I was nervous enough just opening up my playfield to replace a plastic piece and solder a broken wire. I couldn't imagine taking everything out and putting it back into a new one. Much kudos to you. Hope it turns out fantastic!

Its dimpled, not really drilled. Have heard that a lot of these pf have aligbment issues with the dimples too so that may not even be reliable. Good reason I will end up with over 1000 pics probably.

Use your existing playfield to drill your new playfield.

I know some people create a template while others use the actual board.

Good luck!

What...they use the original playfield and just drill a hundred holes straight through it? LOL.

I might see if I can buy a big sheet of paper and punch a template. :p

Progress, made some again finally.

The wire harness is FREEEEEEE. Cut the last wires and took off the last retainers tonight. Started unsoldering bare wire connected GI sockets and stuff, becuase replacing them all would cost me 40 bucks. SCREW THAT, MAN.

SOLDAPULT, GO!

All assemblies, switches, and screws are out of the playfield now. It's just staples, bare wire, and about 10 sockets left to unsolder and remove and then this playfield is 100% stripped.

Pictures pictures needed! I'm doing this this winter to my BH. I need all the
advice I can get. How'd you keep track of everything?

I have about 900 pictures. Literally.

I'm going with the "organized chaos" approach for the most part. I have all te sockets and assemblies in the cabinet body, screws are in one bin, metal guides and gates and other misc detritus in another container....all the plastic bits in a third, etc.

Everything was cut off with a nub of wire still attached so I an determine what goes to what on the harness a bit easier. There are some that got away but I know that they are for the pop bumper light sockets. Its the only place on the playfield that solder spades were screwed down. :p

Schematics ftw.

At any rate going to start cleanin assemblies and playing with the tumbler over the next few days. I wish i could just replace these dingy sockets but at 1.50 each x 24 just for the GI......hell to the no. :p
