Picked up a new game today, a Space Invaders trimline. All in all I think its in pretty good condition. The problems are: it has one corner that is partially broken, the CP is scratched, missing a marque, a couple of the sounds aren't working, lower coin door is bent up, need to install locks and missing the original back door (currently a piece of plywood is screwed on).

Anyone who has one or has experience with them, can you tell me if the monitor is supposed to have a color gradient appearance to it (as seen in the last picture). I figure this is for color effect on the trimline, in place of the green and orange mylar like on the upright, just want confirmation that my suspicions are correct.

Also, if anyone knows where I can get a nice condition marque, let me know. I saw QuarterArcade has one, but its rated 3.5/5 so not sure how nice it looks.

Control Panel is a little scratched up:

I need to find a marque for it:

I don't know about the overlay on the monitor... I've never seen a mini in person.

But for the sounds, there's a decent write-up at http://www.brentradio.com/SpaceInvadersSoundRepair.htm Some of it is basically a write up of Mark Spaeth's work, IIRC... so, just want to have the credit shared where it's due.

I still haven't gone through and completely repaired mine (invader hit sound is a warble instead of the "dink" that I think it's supposed to be.) But I didn't have the right value capacitor... but since I was missing ALL sounds when I got the machine, and I have all sounds back now... yeah, good write-up.

Mine came with a relatively thick plastic overlay that cups over the tube which has a rainbow explosion radiating out from center.

I got one of those but it was converted to a trivia whiz...
I might convert it back to a space invaders some time...?

I did a thread on my SI TrimLine a while back too. I love these cabs.

For the sounds, before dealing with caps and the like, there are like 9 dials on the PCB that control each individual sound. Check to make sure the sounds aren't just turned off.

I have a spare marquee if you are interested. I can get you pictures if you would like.

The monitor overlay is normal. Mine has the orange, yellow, green cellophane on it, but the donor cab I got had one like yours that is warped into the shape of the monitor. I never looked into which was correct. I assume the form fitted one you have is since my machine is the only one I've seen with the cellophane.

For your back door, I have a crude drawing of plans for it that I made for someone else who was lacking in the rear. I can email you those as well if you are interested.

Nice acquisition and I am looking forward to seeing your progress on this.

If we could get someone to make new CPOs for these, I need one, too...

JDGJr is working on that. He has the scans. He is cleaning it up an working on the logistics. He is trying to get NEW metal CPOs made instead of the vinyl CPO that is currently available.

That would be cool...

Ahhh... that's right. Taito. My Midway version doesn't have all of those... it was one and that controls everything. ... which kind of sucks because the rest of the sounds are just right, but when the base gets hit it's loud as hell.

Would very much appreciate the drawing of the back door, as well as pics of the marque you have, I will PM you my e-mail address.

As for the sounds, I knew about the separate volume controls. I was fiddling with them last night, thats how I know I am missing a couple of sounds like the player death sound effect.

Thanks for the multiple confirmations on the rainbow monitor overlay everyone.

I would love to get a new metal CP if that were to happen. Just so I know, who is currently producing the vinyl CPO? I haven't come across that.

Does anyone with a Trimline had a Braze multigame kit installed? I am just curious if there are issues with the board setup in the Trimeline vs. in the normal upright.

edit: I believe I answered my own question. It says on Braze's website that it only works on the Midway 'L-shaped' boardset. Sucks.

So then the question is, is there any free play or high score save for the Taito boardset?

The Braze kit does not work with the Taito 3-board-stack. There is no free play kit or high score save kit or multi kit for this version.

I bought one of these from an inkjetter (gameongrafix) a while ago. they're printed from the free vector artwork which is wrong in too many ways to mention nere.

While not a "kit", those ROMs I posted up a few days ago of SI Freeplay w/ Attractmode -should- work on the Taito set as well. I believe the ROMs are the same in MAME if I'm not mistaken? And, if I am, let me know and I'll write one for you.

Good to know, thanks. To deal with the freeplay, I think I am just going to use a CoinUp (http://www.onecircuit.com/node/41).

Most interested in figuring out a high score save solution.

Workable... it would probably involve a quick code re-write and then putting an NVRAM in place of a couple of the RAM that are on there. ... but I don't remember seeing anything in the code that actually went out of it's way to clear the highscores... then again I didn't really pay much attention to that.
