My silkscreened Missile Command control panel has arrived

would it not make more sense to send all the control panels to 1 place, have them all sand blasted and powder coated and then painted??

seems to me that there are a few variables in panel prep that could be eliminated if 1 person handles the prep. Not to mention it might be cheaper to get 20 sand blasted and powder coated in 1 shot..

This makes perfectly good sense Bill but i can pretty much guarantee that there will be some original panels that are gonna be slightly bent or concave from abuse and when it comes to having them returned, somebody isn't gonna get their original panel back which will lead to an unhappy customer. I myself (and i'm pretty sure i can speak for Rich) want no part of this potential disaster. These things all look the same when coated and there will be no way for the coater to keep them seperated by owner. You send your panel to Rich and it can be marked, photographed etc. so there is no confusion or question that the one you sent is the one you get back. I love all you guys but not enough to get into an arguement over a piece of metal. If somebody wants to step forward and really truly make a bunch of these things brand new, then there will be no potential issues.

If the part wasn't blasted and bare metal, I wouldn't think the 'charge' would attract the powder to cling like it should during the process.

Then again, I heard about one guy that doesn't even use the electrical charge.. just bakes the part, gets it hot, then sprays the powder on it. I know that doesn't sound quite right.

Your theory is good as long as the metal goes from bare to coat without sitting around. As soon as it starts to oxidize, you're toast.

here is some ideas:
1: engraving tool. mark all panels on the inside as they arrive.
2: put a metal band in each panel on the hinge bolt before painting.
3: rate the panels as they come in. If someone sends you a grade 7, they get a grade 7 back. People who send a 9, get a 9 back.
4: buy all the panels, then sell them back. If someone does not agree to sell, they can not buy.
5: all parites must agree not to bitch or they can't participate.

If your worried about that, should you not be worried about panels lost or damaged in transit back?

On a side note, If you guys want to do asteroids panels, I can send you 2 or 3 donors... I also have 2 atari footballs I don't really need.. Probably have 1 or 2 battlezones.

I would imgine some people have spare MC panels. Maybe they can send some extras..

The next thing you guys have to decide is how much money you wanna spend on this panel. There's gonna be some back and forth shipping, the cost of creating a new one (if Troy goes this route), TOG printing charges and when it's all over, you will easily have dropped $150+

One of our local KC Group collectors (Scott C) did a run locally of Centipede cabaret panels a couple of years back.

They were EXACT copies of the originals, right down to the same hinge, and very reasonable. I've got one on my machine, and I'm super picky, it's perfect!

Considering the potential processing problems of 30 yr old used panels, and all the variables of condition, new seems like a good route, not to mention scheduling, set-up, and a host of other fun production environment gremlins.

Sorry in advance for blowing up your PM box Scott, HA HA!

I was hoping for paper stencils and rattle cans for paint!

Panel looks great! This is a nice product, however, the KLOVeren will beat this down until it's available for $3, which includes shipping... :D

I can't wait till later this year when I have some expendable income.. you guys will shit lol and it involves alot of players in this scenario.

Nice to see Missile Command get some love. Seems like one of those great games that somehow just has not been one of the front runners it should be imho.

Yeah, I had a guy ask me to find him one a few months back. I tracked one down and repaired it, I was surprised at how cool of a game it was. I'd played it, but not on a dedicated machine. Great game.

So true Arc. Missile Command is must have imo. I'll post pix of mine one of these days. My only wish is the trackball was 3.25...might be blasphemy, but I'd be interested if Takeman fabbed a MC panel sized for 3.25 with Rich screening the art...Hey I can dream cant I?

The spotlight now shines on you Troy, i could get you the powder/texture info. These panels would be pretty easy compared to the Quantum.

Send it on over. I'll see if I can make it down to the metal guy Monday 03/14 to drop off the panel. I know he has a few powder coat samples I can check out. Quantity will be key. If I can get enough made to get into the quantity disocunt, the price will be cheaper. Im talking 50 plus.
