This restore has been taking forever I started last August or September and due to ongoing rain and bad weather didn't finish it. Well Now I have been really working at it and here is what the progress looks like from start to almost done.

Here is the turd I started with at the moment this is the best picture of it I could find.

Now on to the Green unfortunately this is the only picture I have of the green maybe there is more but I have to dig for them.

And that basically sums up what I did last year I did have one more set of lines done but It doesn't look like I went and took a picture of it. So on to what the game looks like after I just painted the 4th and final set of lines and did the touch up work. It's almost done now I just have to go back and retouch the colors.

Here I'm fixing up the green after some tape peeling damage that took a lot of paint with it this was like a week ago.

Here is some of the damage caused by the tape when I took it off had to go back and fix it all over again.

You may be wondering why I put a new piece of wood up where the speaker grill is well lets just say it was one of those DOH moments. I tipped the cabinet forward on to the hand truck while grabbing the speaker grill and WHAM it ripped off the cabinet in like 8 pieces. So had to build a new one tool like an hour and a half.

Now on to the major black touch ups:

Now that the major black touch ups are done I can finally take the tape off and get an idea of what the finished project will look like. The colors got kind of washed out in the picture but they look a lot better in person. The cabinet looks amazing in the picture but there is a lot of minor stuff the camera can't pick up but you would notice it when you where looking at the game. I finished all the black touch ups today and will do the minor color touch ups as soon as I can then on to clear coat.

Here is a good picture can see the color contrast much better in the stripes. If you look real closely you can see where some of the color ran on the stripes But I fixed all that today. :D

Looking good! I remember playing Rampge on the NES back in the day...another one of those games I didn't realize was an arcade game first. :)

wonderful work so far! may i ask how you did the bally midway logo? stencils?

Nah no stencils I'm some what a budget restorer LOL I used masking tape that you could somewhat see through and X-acto knives and cut it all by hand. It was such a small area that it wasn't that hard and Midway part was even easier because of the straight lettering. Actually I think that Rampage and TMNT where the only games I played when I first stepped foot in an arcade so I was freaking out when I found out there was an NES version. Was greatly disappointed by the TMNT NES conversion but the Rampage conversion minus the 3rd player was spot on.

sounds good! i might be getting a rampage myself these weeks, that's why i'm especially interested in this restoration.

what are you going to do about the control panel. as far as i know, there are no reproductions available ...

This looks great.

There really should be more repro Rampage parts. I still see the cabinets around, and it's a great classic game.

One tip when using masking tape for stripes etc, use an old credit card and scrape the tape against the surface. It works amazingly well to prevent bleeding.
I used it on the stripes in my gameroom and they look like decals.

Ah yeah I was waiting for this to come up well it just so happens that I have the last NOS overlay in existence as far as I know. The only problem is that the CP I have is REALLY nice for an original and I have a 2nd CP which would be good to use for the new overlay but there was an extra hole cut out for each player (for World Tour Rampage). Now with the 2nd CP with the extra holes I could go and cut a piece off it use it to restore the small area damaged on the better one and make a good one out of it for later use. I really don't want to put the fresh CPO on the one with holes that I have to patch would just be a waste SO I'm going to need a really bad 3rd metal CP just so I wont feel bad about this restore.

Here's my new Overlay:

And here's the two CP's I have notice the extra buttons on the top one it was made for the Rampage squeal. Also notice how messed up it is I wouldn't have any problem removing it but I would rather not put a fresh CPO that you can't replace on a patched CP. Also the top one has all the necessary parts you could use in order to fix the lower one. So what I need is a Really crappy CP just the metal plate with a bad CPO on it.

man, a NOS overlay, i totally envy you. i hope you have scanned that thing or are going to do so. how about passing it on to rich / brian so that reproductions can be made? i'm sure there are a couple of people who are in desperate need of a new overlay for their rampage!

YES!!! PLEASE!!! I have a Rampage in desperate need of a new CPO... if you could scan it, it would mean the world to me, as my Rampage restoration has yet to cross that hurdle... I honestly do believe you have the last one.

I'm going to do my best with this one, I'm just glad to see there are others out there that like the game as much as I do. I think Rampage is a really under rated game.
